I know, I'm just repeating what everyone else said but that's amazing. Congrats!
Those are beautiful. I would only grade doubles and keep a raw version because I honestly think a graded card holder would not enhance the look on smoe of these.
The ones you want to sell, ok, grade them and make some money. The others, if for the PC, keep raw. SICK!!! Simply SICK I tell you!
Do share when you get the grade results. Please.

Great stuff and congrats.

One of the few benefits left with owning a brick and mortar store is that you become the local expert.

I imagine what he paid was "enough". If I were him, I wouldn't share it if it were a low number. The reason why:

If it's really low he's going to be accused of pulling a Mr. Mint. (i.e. these are only worth [severely undervalued price])

Hopefully, the owner came in and asked "How much is this worth?"
He replied "It should get around [fair amount netting profit for taking the time to split it up, grade and sell]. I'd be glad to pay for it right now."
To which the owner replied "Sounds about right. Sold."

EXACTLY

Just like that show Pawn Stars when the experts come in and say the item is worth
$4,000 retail and the seller says how about $4,000. I have the expense, overhead, and
need to make a profit on it. You want retail open a store...

Great pick-up!

I might have missed, how many cards were included in the lot? Must be fun going through them, I'm pretty jealous.

Nice collection and hopefully you got a good deal. If you have a shop and lowball someone, word gets out. If you treat them fairly, you will get more customers and may have a repeat of this type of transaction. I agree with the PS post how the sellers decide they want exactly as much as the retail cost. If you are buying it to keep, then of course you may go higher but if you are turning around and selling it, you have to (as the Pickers say) leave some meat on the bone.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.

I won't divulge what I paid, but needless to say the seller was given all information available. This was an estate from a gentleman who had recently passed away and the administrator wanted the value assessed and the collection sold. I advised the attorney of the approximate book value of the collection, as well as "real world" value of the collection. I explained that the market is down across the board and that most of the big name cards would need to be graded to maximize value. The attorney said that she wasn't sure the administrator wanted to put MORE money into the collection and wanted to know if I would sell it on Ebay. I told her I would, and explained Ebay's fee structure, my fees for my time, and the length of time it would take to move all of it.

At that point, I suggested that I was interested and things progressed from there.

this is like the 4th time I've came back to this thread just to see if more pictures were posted.... you have been thanked for sharing. cause man..that rules!

all these are in ridiculously good condition, were there a lot of other cards not as high dollar/not in as good of shape? it just blows my mind to see so many cards like those with very few condition issues!
