I thought it was interesting. The Becket S*&cks post got me thinking about what I may do if I was into cards but wasn't too sure about where I could go to buy, sell trade and talk sports cards.
What if I knew about Beckett because of the magazine, but every time I went to the Beckett Forum, I threw up in my mouth a little.
I would search out other forums and try them out. Here's what I got in order:
(I did not put all of the search results, just the ones that resulted in a "Forum"... and I only put forums once even if they showed up more than once.)
www.sportscardforum.com
www.blowoutcards.com/forums
www.sportscardfreaks.com
www.traderretreat.com
www.cardboardconnection.com
www.nonsportscardforum.com
www.network54.com
www.Collectors Universe Forums
www.tradingcardcentral.com
www.elitesports.proboards.com
www.sportscardhaven.com
www.sportscardlegends.com
www.thebenchtrading.com
www.beckett.com/forums
www.sportscardblog.net/
www.sidelinesportscards.com
www.tradecardsnowboards.com
www.freedomcardboard.com (FINALLY ON PAGE 6!!)
www.psacard.com
www.freewebs.com/csctraders (Canadian Sports Card Traders)
atlsportscards.com/forums/index.php
www.bargainbaseballcards.com

I realize that every other forum out there is garbage, so why is it that FCB ends up on page 6? I am not sure how Google results work. IS there a way to change that?
I actually got to page 11 before I found FCB, but when I went back, I missed an FCB link on page 6, so I moved it up.

What phrase did you search?

"sports card forum"?

sports card forum

Interesting.

Of course that phrase probably rarely if ever has appeared on this site. And who knows how Google rips through this site, what and where they may penalize.

a lot of it is age.

this site was WAY late to the sports cards on the internet boom.

I also do not use the word forum, and I don't think a lot of searchers do either. That term is going away.

SEO and targeted keywords. Sports card forum just isn't a keyword targeted on this site.

I just typed into Google, baseball card message board, and did not see FCB after 8 full pages of results and stopped looking.

I always thought Freedom Card Board is a terrible name.
I understand the original reason for it, since we broke free from Beckett, but the choice was too shortsighted.

If I were searching for a baseball card message board, why would I click on something called Freedom Card Board, with all the sports-related named sites out there?
It sounds like a political site, or a fringe group site, or an American postcard site, or something promoting a "Freedom Card."

As a relatively new site, it's imperative that the name "Sports" or something sports or collecting related, be in the title.
Most of us would never have found this site if we didn't come over as a group during the great Beckett exodus.

I'm glad we have this place to share our hobby, and it's my favorite baseball card site, but I think the site's name and lack of Google searchability will forever prevent a large membership.

Agreed. I came over after the Exodus. If I was searching for one, I can see how this would not be a top choice. Maybe a search for a new name would be worthy of a contest?

I agree with the bolded part but unfortunately I think it is to late to undergo a name change. To build the user base will take promoting the website now.BO started promoting their forum in Beckett magazine and they have new users popping up all the time.As much as Beckett is a thing of the past to most users here,it is still alive and well in the hobby.

I believe you can pay google to bump your name up in searches.
If "forum" is an outdated term what word is taking its place?
