Well, the moment that most of us were waiting for is happening next week. Next weeks fight is Kimbo vs. Roy Nelson. I'm sort of bummed because although I don't really like Kimbo I wouldn't have minded seeing him get a win against one of the lesser experienced fighters. Roy is my favorite to win the show and is probably as well rounded a fighter as there is in the house. Outside of an early haymaker by Slice, I think Neslon takes him down and probably within the first rounds gets a G&P TKO or a sub.
I think this fight also shows what a terrible coach, at least when it comes to selecting fighters and fights, Rampage is. Lets start with tonights fight. McSweeney is a pretty good fighter with supposedly great standup and no ground game who is quite experienced in the fight game. Page instead of just picking one of his better wrestlers or BJJ guys he picks a lumbering guy that really didn't seem like he had anything going for him outside of being a giant. No ground game when he got McSweeney down, ugly standup, with pretty much no idea of how to check a kick, and no gas tank.
Now lets get to Kimbo. Everyone knew that as soon as Rashad got control his first fight that he picked would probably be against Kimbo, and he could essentially have anyone he wanted to fight him. No big surprise that he picked one of his best fighters who works the ground a lot. If Page wasn't an idiot, he would have had Kimbo in one of the first two fights. This would have allowed them to handpick the guy he fights rather than the other way around. They could have picked the weakest fighter on the other team, or simply someone that pretty much only stands. Now, unless something really surprising happens, Kimbo will be done fighting after the 3rd episode. I just think there is no way Page should have let Rashad decide who Kimbo fights, especially since Page has seemed to make Kimbo his little special project.
