Somehow I can't grasp how some Lee Macphail cuts are going for more then long deceased and more well known HOFers. Something crazy about a guys index card I can get for .88 by sending him a TTM, that other people are paying $22+ for because it slabbed, yet Roush, Waner and some others who died 20+ years ago all sell in $20-$60 range for the same slabbed card. There is a Edd J Roush 2010 Leaf Sports Icons /21 up now that is at $20+ but will probaby end under $35?? Yet the Macphail with 4x as many cuts produced sold for more then that card has bids for???

Probably "hype..."

He is the oldest living HOFer, and while I don't mean to be mean, that is probably driving prices up in anticipation of... well you know...

Just my take.

I am much happier with my 2 index cards that I sent TTM :D

I didn't sub anything this year, but maybe next year I will sub a Dick Siebert index, and I might do a Glen Perkins auto (stupid, I know, but I think it would be a neat PC item).

I can assure you that if you wait 5 years and submit the Glen Perkins for the cut, it will be the first and still be a 1/1 ;)

Exactly!

Haha.

It will also most likely be his only cut unless Topps pulls some 1-per-box cut autograph set of current players... Hopefully not.

I submitted a couple Yankees HOFers among others and the key for me? A Dick Porter.

So why would I do this when I can build my own? Something different. Plus, the Dick Porter will be the "Masterpiece 1/1" and to me it's well worth the $40 just to have another "oddball" Porter card in the collection. Is it a manufactured 1/1? Sure, but no different than any other cut signature card whether or not it's Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts, Mystery Cuts, etc.

Brian and tell them what auto they are sending gets the 1/1?

Seems a little sketchy no??? ;)

it's only sketchy if you jump to conclusions to make it sketchy

And with that statement... I know its sketchy! ::facepalm::[/quote:2fo5lt70]
To my knowledge, it is the first submitted. Basically, the first to fill out the paperwork and actually place the order. Orders were apparently coming through the mail before the Atlanta show so a few people got a jump on the submissions. Atlanta was the first in person submission for this project, but those who submitted through the mail before the show got first dibs on the 1/1 Masterpiece version.

Didn't seem sketchy to me.

All 5 of the ones I submitted at the show on Saturday morning were the first requests/orders for those players so I was pleased. Obviously the Dick Porter will probably be the only one submitted so I wasn't shocked there...but two others were HOFers, one a legendary Yankee and another of a prospect.

I think most people locked into the Ali sets when looking at the Leaf booth. I do think that once these start appearing online, people will get into it.

And with a response like that all my questions and (conclusions) have been resolved...
Thank you for the insight!
You have been thanked.

As most would expect, guys like Mantle, Aaron, Mays, etc. were the first submissions as clearly the resale value on those would be great as 1/1s regardless of people's opinions of this product.

I really don't view it too differently from grading cards, where an artificial value is placed/perceived simply due to a slab and/or authentication.

I've got no problem admitting that I submitted a couple for my collection and a couple to sell.

And that statement, I realize how canned your responses are.

Say something I dont like??? Where?
Show me posts of mine that back that statement up.

I stated an opinion based on a post. You called it a conclusion..

If a card is graded isn't that the same as getting one of these cuts made?

You are paying for a second party to make your card more valuable.

One is made valuable by subjective grading, the other by creating a totally new card.

The thing is that what is being sent to Leaf aren't cards... they are indexs, photos, and paper.

These are the current auctions for the 2010 set, notice not one has a bid over $39.95 other then Dimaggio & Henderson? With names like Namath, brett, Roush, Hafey, Feller/boudreau dual all being currently under $30. How can they charge so much to slab your own already authenticated item that dosen't even sell for anywhere near $39.95???

I would imagine people taking advantage of this service are doing it for PC items and not resale. If you're doing this to make money, like everything, you are taking a gamble.

Of course. That's like saying that it's silly to buy any box of cards because the majority of box breaks sell for well below the purchase price isn't it?

Are people going to submit Bob Feller signatures or similar $5-10 signed index cards? Who knows, but I can certainly assume that at least one Feller will be submitted for the 1/1 slab. The question comes, is it for resale or a personal collection? And that we won't know until it shows up on eBay.

Dick Porter index cards are typically no more than $15, I can make my own custom cuts at cost, yet I didn't hesitate a second as to whether or not I'd submit a Dick Porter signature for this. It won't be for resale, nor would anyone probably want it.

It's also a matter of some people only collect cards, and prefer not to have index cards. These things slabbed look really nice and it's a nice oddball item, slabbed.
