i thought that this was a "when will we see Nelson Cruz heating up (in the hobby)" thread.

Hobby and eBay, two different animals.

i am aware that eBay can attract many sheep, but he'll be 29 next month for christ's sake! lol
also, its the rangers, the TEXAS rangers, who suck.

at 29 years old, how much hobby love is he expected to garner now?
Still haven't figured out you can make money on the cougars? If you show big time power, play on a winning team, and get people talking... you cards will go up no matter how old you are.
Since Cruz turns 29 in a few months, investors and collectors realize Cruz started too late to have a Hall of Fame career.
So people are hesitant to spend so much money on his cards.
Say he hits .300 with 38 homers and 115 rbi.
Excellent season, but it's nothing extraordinary for a 29 year old.
Are people clamoring for cards of Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko and other excellent hitters who put up similar stats?
Unless a player explodes at a very early age, (or is a freak like Ryan Howard) his cards aren't going to hold much interest or value.

Have you been hiding in a cave for the last few years?
Name some players whose cards have risen dramatically after he breaks out for the first time at such an advanced age as Cruz.
(And not a Japanese import or someone with a great story like Josh Hamilton.)
Also, comparing Nelson Cruz of the unpopular Rangers to a clutch-hitting Red Sox legend like David Ortiz is ridiculous.[/quote:2zmzbf3i]

Jason Bay, Luke Scott, Carlos Pena, Chase Utley, Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Ludwick, Lance Berkman

The Rangers are 10 games over .500.

You're kidding right? They have the second best recond in the AL behind the Yankees...

Cruz is much older than most of those players when they became stars.
Bay was Rookie of the Year at age 25, then continued with excellent seasons.
Utley has been great since he was 25.
Gonzalez has been excellent since he was 24.
Berkman's been a star since he was 24.
Scott, Pena and Ludwick are legitimate examples, but no one considers them future Hall of Famers, or even big stars.
I guess if you're looking for a short term investment, Cruz's cards were a deal last year.
But I wouldn't think people are buying his cards now to hang onto longterm.

The reason I listed Bay, Pena, Utley, Gonzalez and Berkman is because they've just seen their biggest spikes in the last couple years with big season's (at the ages of 27-31). I don't know if anyone invest "longterm" anymore. I'm just saying money can made on older players.

PS: I apologize for the in a cave comment. That looks a little bit like me being a dick.
