So who will be the first HOF to have had a BC auto?

I don't know why people always disregard Adam Dunn. Yes, he K's frequently (though he has been bringing this number down each season), his average isn't high (his career avg is .247), and he's not the best defensively (his career FP is .974). So he won't win a GG, but his K's are going down and it is quite possible that since he is showing more patience (he led the NL in walks in 2008) that his batting average could rise some.

If he can stay healthy (always the big if) and continue his current pace, he will put up solid numbers. If he plays only 8 more seasons, he would be 37 and his numbers could look like this:

1300+ Runs, 2000 Hits, 400+ 2Bs, 75 3Bs, 550+ HRs, 1300+ RBIs, 1500+ BBs

He might even be able to break 100 SBs. I know that's not much, but for a guy of his size, that's pretty cool. He also has a career OBP of .381.

I think Adam Dunn could seriously have a shot at the HOF if he continues his current pace. You can almost write the guy in for 40 HRs, 100 RBIs, 80+ Runs, 100+ BBs, and an OBP of .350+. That's solid production.

He's too one dimensional. He sucks at fielding, doesn't steal bases, and he strikes out a ton. K's are going down? Woo he went down from 165 to 164!! He's on pace for probably the most K's for a hitter, that's terrible! C;mon..he hits homeruns because he's a big man, but can't do anything else. Last year he batted .236......236!! He's batted under .250 5 out of his 8 seasons with a career .247 average, that's terrible. He's never led the NL in anything besdies strikeouts, multiple times. And he's never came close to winning any award whether it is ROY or MVP or GG or whatever. You know why? Because ::gasp:: he's not worthy of one!

I'm sorry I'm just not a fan of Dunn, but that is what I have to say.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion Scotty, even if it's wrong. :lol: :lol: Just kidding.

Yes, his Ks went from 165 to 164 from 2007 to 2008, but he also struck out 194 times in 2006. So I would say dropping 30 Ks is a step in the right direction.

He's got more steals than Pujols. He's even been caught stealing less times than him. Now, before anyone freaks out, I am not comparing Dunn to Pujols. I was just simply stating that he's not the worst base stealer in baseball is all.

I said that his batting average was low, but that is something that he could fix. His career numbers could be close to, if not better than McGwire's. McGwire was only a career .263 hitter, but a lot of people think he could be a HOFer (were it not for the roids) and he was one dimensional as well. Again, not comparing Dunn to McGwire, just stating that one dimensional power hitters are considered to be HOFers if they have big numbers.

He is not a good fielder, but he does have a career FP of .974. Once again, not trying to make a player comparison, just simply a single stat comparison, but Ted Williams had a career FP of .974.

The one thing you are wrong on is that Dunn did lead the league in BBs last year, so he has lead the league in something other than Ks now.

Again, we can argue his batting average, fielding, and strike outs, but honestly, would you really not want a guy who averages 100 Runs, 40 HRs, 96 RBIs, 114 BBs, and an OBP of .381 per 162 games?

Anyways this is because say if the Sox are in a race for the playoffs towards the end of the season, Dunn is someone I would NOT want in my lineup. He has a career BA of .225 in August, September, and October. That would not really help out my team because I would want someone who can get hits and drive runners in. Sure you say he might walk a lot but if he gets a walk he is on first. And he is a terrible base runner so the only way he is scoring is if a homerun is hit. His OBP is .20 LOWER than his career average during those last 3 crucial months of the baseball season. And also in his career he has a .217 [ick!] batting average with 2 outs and w/ RISP and a .225 batting average in his career with RISP. Those averages are low and in those situations I want a hit to knock in that runner. If he gets a walk, and the next batter hits a ground ball then there is a very good chance of a inning ending double play. I'll stick with Jason Bay and Ortiz in my lineup.

Thank you Scotty. You make good points too. He definitely has flaws. Many, many flaws. :lol:

I don't tend to go off of projections, I like to just take the wait and see approach. I find Dunn interesting though because he has the potential to end his career with some big HR numbers. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Thank you for the fun, civil Dunn discussion. I always enjoy being able to disagree on a player in a fun, civil, and intelligent manner. Of course, I would expect nothing less when dealing with you.

There are certainly players who are better than Dunn. I just keep hoping that now that he's coming into his prime, maybe he'll settle down and bring some of those numbers up. He's almost certainly never going to hit .300, but a coupe seasons of .260-.270 sure would be nice. I keep hoping he'll end up with the Cubs because he would have more RBI opportunities and he would probably hit more HRs in the friendly confines of Wrigley.
