So who's doing the COMC challenge?

Just noticed this the other day, and have killed some free time doing it. Seems like it's basically designed to help establish COMC's proprietary right to information that it's now leasing from Beckett. Still, I have little doubt that COMC's database will blow Beckett's out of the water if done right, which will be a large service to collectors. I'm especially excited that they're thinking of using the same crowd sourcing to tag cameo cards, as it's nearly impossible to do comprehensive searches for those nowadays.

what's the point for the collector to participate? too few prizes available, likely too many collectors contributing reducng your odds of actually getting something of value in return for your work/knowledge. I would rather sign a services agreement with COMC and get paid by the hour to help them generate information that makes *them* money.

I have no problem sharing my hobby thoughts/info on FCB because it's done for the love of the hobby. When it come to business like COMC, I rather get paid for my info that makes them money or receive something guaranteed in return rather than contributing info with no guarantee of getting something from them in return.

I'm doing it, but it sure takes a while to get anywhere with just 100 points per time played. If I played for a hour straight, and didn't miss a player, that'd be just 3000 points (I typically do it in just under 2 mins). Makes me wonder how some of the high scorers found time to take the challenge a few thousand times.

I'm trying but I agree that it's damn near impossible to accumulate the tens of thousands of points needed to make the leaderboard. The people that do must not have jobs and can stay home on a computer all day, or work on a computer and get nothing else done!

Or, more likely, are having people do it for them when they don't want to, or can't.

I don't get it, I just started doing it, and it doesn't even make sense to me, putting in the first two letters of the first name and the last, I'm confused

My guess is that's how they sort through all their data. Start with a quick breakdown, then eventually narrow it down to the exact player.

Hmm, that makes sense. I'm shooting through the leaderboard, started in the 500s, now I'm in the 300s, got a lot of work to do to get to a prize oosition

I just completed a "round" for baseball that contained basketball as well as a ton of A&G nonsport cards like animals, buildings, events, etc. Also a few b&w vintage items with no name on the front and a blank back. How do you enter the lettters of the names for these? Had to skip so many.

I started it on my lunch break today and finished it seven hours later, and got 200 points. I can't figure out the rhyme or reason behind this challenge!

I'm sitting at about 4300 ppints so I figure I'll at least get to 5000 to get an entry in the draw.

At max of 100 points per play, he has probably played 12,000 times!
At an average of 2 minutes/play, that is 24,000 minutes
24,000 minutes = 400 hours
If he put in a 10 hour day, that is 40 days.

Even if you assume 100% accuracy and record speeds each time at 1:30 seconds, the numbers look like this:
The leader has 118,000 points.
At max of 100 points per play, he has played 11,800 times!
At an average of 1:30 minutes/play, that is 17,700 minutes
17,700 minutes = 295 hours
If he put in a 10 hour day, that is 29.5 days.

Is my math wrong? Are people gaming the system? Are people spending more than 10 hours per day doing this? I got bored doing it just a few times. How is it possible to spend more than 10 hours per day doing this?

You only get the full 100 points if you are accurate. They present random cards where they know the answer mixed in with the unknown cards, if you get one of those wrong, they deduct points. Maybe some people have figured out which ones are the the "test" cards and can quickly guess on the rest?

You're dividing by 10 in the bolded section, not 100. The math should look like this:

118,000 points
Divided by 100 points per play = 1,180 plays
Times 1.5 minutes per play = 1,770 minutes
Divided by 60 minutes = 29.5 hours

So just over one day's worth of work. Using 2.5 minutes per play, which is more reasonable, would come out to 49 hours, or more than two days.

That makes much more sense. The overall leader numbers are actually over 168,000 points now, I must have been looking at the weekly leaders.

I've had a couple of plays which got me 200 points. They seemed to be plays that I started, left for a while, then finished, making the total completion time several hours.
