The real question is how are so many people learning that 90s inserts are selling well. This message board has a presence but only so big, too many nice cards have popped up over the last year.

Geez there were 4 bidders that were at about $50 or more for that Andruw too... It's not like it's one set collector and one player collector, and once they get satisfied the third one will close at $12 or something.

As someone who is slowly piecing together a master set of Gold Label basketball, you'd be surprised at some of the prices on the red labels. I've seen some of the bigger name players sell for up to $200 and even the class 3 commons can go over $25. My first example was a Gary Trent class 3 #/25 that started minimum bid of .99 and BIN of 9.99. I figured I could get it less than the BIN and so did others so that got killed quickly, and the auction ended around $18. Gary Trent is a scrub bench player at best.

He's still playing?

This board has a lot of members and word of mouth can go quite far.I don't think that is the total cause though. This board is, like said before, too small to have that kind of impact. My best guess is people are watching auctions and may have stocked a lot of this stuff up.I know that if you were collecting back in the late 90's...this stuff wasn't that tough to stockpile.I know a few dealers and collectors who have a ton of 90's stuff stashed away but they never bring it out because they don't figure it has a chance due to the GU/Auto craze everybody has been wrapped up in.I have been asking them to take a crack at it for months and even told them I'd make it worth their while to dig out but they just don't want to.

I know my usualy haunt doesn't have much out but I have been assured he has a ton.He said point blank, "What happens after you pick through?", "I am left with a bunch of crap I can't sell sitting here in my shop.". I told him it would sell but some people are hard headed. But also, he kind of had a point. Most guys with the brick and mortar stores around here don't see much $$$ in the way of 90's stuff unless its Bagwell or Biggio. Its also one of the reasons I have what I have because if you do find anybody with stuff, they sell dirt cheap. They don't want it cluttering up their shop.

I think a few people have started to realize that these cards are going for more at auction and are starting to sharpen up and crank them out of those hidey holes.Honestly...I prefered it when they weren't so popular.Sure it is hard to find them but at least you aren't competing with people. And I like that.

+1 (except for the Biggio, Bagwell part, since I live no where near anyone who may collect them...)
(...and except for the "my usually haunt" part, since I have no idea what that means...
(...but I like the rest...)

My usual Haunt means where I usually go(shopwise). As far as the Bags and Biggio statement...that applies to my area. Most of the astros stuff is quick to sell here. But the thing is...people have a lot of Frank Thomas, Chipper Jones, and Manny Ramirez cards as well as guys like Walker and Belle. From what I gather...that doesn't sell as quick. In my mind...a lot of shop owners here may feel that a lot of this stuff isn;t that rare or hard to find. They may not peruse ebay that much and may not think its worth anything.Trust me when I say I have snagged some nice deals simply because of this.I cannot speak for the rest of the country let alone the rest of my state but I know around the places I frequent...they just don't see the market for it.People are always interested in high end singles or the newest wax out.

I picked this up in a lot for less than $20, there wasn't even a mention of it in the description.

Well this Brad Fullmer gold label sale at $53 and /100 looks like we can chalk the majority of the pricing to set collectors, right!? Plus you gotta love that the bidder who won the Fullmer for that amount was willing to pay more!

And $96 for a Tony Gwynn/50? 2 of the 3 major bidders on the Fullmer are the same for the Gwynn auction.

I don't collect those guys or follow their sales, but I'm sure that isn't surprising for a rare Gwynn. He IS a HOF'er.

Fullmer, yeah surprising.

Maybe I should list my Griffey to see what it'll bring.

Actually, it's really suprising. #'d / 50 Gwynns, even 90's, go for around $30 -$40 at most! Usually much cheaper. THis is definitely a rare price! This went $30 more than what I thought would be the absolute most if a couple "Snipes Go Bad"!

The other 2 1998 closed Gwynn auctions for cards #'d of 50 went for less than 1/3 of the gold label price:
$33.75 for 1998 Leaf rookies longevity Tony Gwynn 25/50
$28.59 for 1998 Leaf Diamond axis die-cut Tony Gwynn 23/50
