Maddon is easily one of the best managers in the MLB. It's amazing how he wins with the offense he has. Besides Longoria, Crawford, and Zobrist, the rest of his lineup is lucky to hit .200.

The Rays need to let Pena walk next year, give Crawford what he wants (they won't b/c of Jennings, but they should), and trade BJ Upton and let Jennings take over.

An absolute fit for them, yet the won't be able to afford him, would be Jayson Werth.

The...Rays...are...coming...back...to...earth...oh...no...stop...the...bleeding...

You start to look bad when you play so far over your head for the first three months of the season.

See: 2009 Blue Jays. Almost the exact same story thus far.

Awful post. The Rays are a World Series caliber team, mostly b/c of Madden.

My post was more of a rant than anything b/c I'm cheering for them out of the Big 3 in the AL East.

How can one team play "over their heads"? WTF kind of statement is that? You win most of your games b/c you are better than the other team.

The Rays need offense, yes, but they are far from out of it.

Not sure where to start.

So, why not start with you comparing the 2009 Blue Jays to the 2010 Rays. This is completely laughable. The Rays are top of the line in terms of drafting/signing guys and developing them to MLB players over the last few years. To compare them to the Jays shows your lack of knowledge. To me, it screams typical Yankees fan. It's not hard to root for a team that drops money by the truckloads to anyone, and everyone.

The Rays were expected by many to compete for the division, which they have done. They have had a tough stretch-last I checked, every team has. They will be there when it's all said and done, in the playoffs along with the Red Sox.

Madden is a top 5 manager, in my opinion.

But they aren't where they are because of him. They are there because of their scouts and front office. Without the guys on that roster, Madden is nothing. He would be no different than Lou Pinella back a few years ago with the Rays. You gotta have the horses.

Your point?

Obviously it isn't hard to find examples of teams not doing what was expected of them. My point is that many people in the game had the Rays competing for the division, which shows they aren't playing way over their head like you think. Your 1st post in this thread is a complete joke. Typical Yankee homer.

You're trying to tell me that everyone expected the Rays to hit and pitch as well as they did the first two months of the season?

The Rays staff is pretty average. LOL.

Are you serious? I love reading stuff from people that know nothing about the game, outside of the teams they root for. It's quite comical. The Red Sox are good, very good-but you would think a Sox fan would have a little more respect for a team that beat them in the 2008 ALCS, and swept them in a 4 game series in Boston this year. The Rays pitching is good, and young-so what you are seeing is these guys reaching their potential(Niemann, Price, Garza).

Please do me a favor-and read what I write.

I said they were expected to compete for the division, which they have done. So, because of that they aren't playing over their heads.

Look at the stats for the Rays-they haven't hit that well this year, but I don't expect you to know that.

my gut feeling is Rays win the WC and Yanks the division. White Sox in the Central and Rangers in the West. Should be fun.

For being so terrible, the Rays do have the 6th best record in baseball and they are 1 game back of the Sox for the Wild Card. Of course they were hot at the beginning the year - the hitters are streaky and the pitching couldn't maintain that level the whole year. They also hit a terrible patch in the World Series season then recovered and got hot. The Red Sox were terrible early and now are back in the thick of it. I hope they turn it around soon, but there is still plenty of time and there are still a lot of games left against the Yankees and the Red Sox. Those games will determine who makes the playoffs.

aren't you the same person that said the Red Sox wouldn't score enough runs to win this year???

Guess that was a miscalculation, huh?

Aren't Red Sox fans the ones who have been saying, for two years, that they have four or five aces and the best rotation depth in the majors?

Whats on paper, and what actually happens are two different things.

Don't try to use logic on him. It won't work.
