I remember at the start of the year when these were selling for $1200-$1400. They have almost doubled and 3 days to go on this one still

You have to love impulse buyers who go after whatever is hot at the time. Thank god for them as they keep people busting products.

it was just pulled off ebay...so a side deal has taken place...wondered on the price? I was guessing that it was going to go for about $2,800 to $3,000...it also helps that he just netted his 51st goal yesterday

Yeah whoever bought a bunch of Stamkos last summer and early fall is cashing in big time. All his high end RCs (probably low/middle end too) have pretty much doubled or more than doubled. Im interested to see what an SP authentic /999 auto rookie card will go for. They were in the $50's last summer.

Too bad he sold it off ebay, would have been interesting to see what one would have went for at auction days after he won the Rocket Richard trophy. I hope the seller got close to $3K or i would have let it go.

On a side note, it just boggles my mind how much Hockey collectors prefer the True RC over the Parallel RC. Just take the Stamkos Cup /99 RC for example. That last auction (last time i saw it anyways) had 23 bids and it was almost at $2400 with over 3 days to go. Yet the Stamkos Cup gold parallel RC /91 sits unsold for BIN $499!!! What would you rather have? The Stamkos true RC or the Stamkos gold parallel /91 and over $2000 cash? Geez with that $2000 cash left over you could go buy every Stamkos rookie year card made!!! Or you go and buy the Gold parallel /91 and 20 copies of his Sp authentic auto RC!!!

i actually brought that same question up years ago when we were at bmb. lol!

it really does boggle the mind about the rainbow version of the cup selling for SIGNIFICANTLY less than the regular rc version

it's not like the parallel rc versions are all like that for hockey cards.....spx spectrum vs regular, upper deck high glossy vs regular, sp authentic fw patch auto vs regular on card rc autos, all have some sort of low numbered variations that sells so much higher so it isn't the question of "true" rc card vs variations of said rc card....

There are a few odd times you will see the Cup parallel sell for more but the reason is generally an incredibly low print run in comparison. If Stamkos wore #7 for example and there were only 7 copies of the parallel you may see the gap close. But even saying that Ovechkin's /99 RC still would like best his /8 parallel.

You make a good point Dave, it does seem this is just more about the Cup parallel RCs the most.

Guess how disappointed I am? I was thinking about purchasing his SPAs last June/July as I found them at a low of $43! Unfortunately, I passed and have been kicking myself over the past couple weeks

I think it is 'true' RC versus parallels. All the other examples you listed either have significant differences in print run (HG Glossy, SPx Spectrum) or a significant embellishment (SP Authentic Patches). A lot of it is driven by set builders - its much easier to move a base RC than a parallel. To move a parallel, you need to find a player or team collector - to move a base RC you just need a set collector, or a RC collector.

Dude, you didn't grab any??? Nooooo!!!! ::facepalm::

I totally remember our PM discussions from last summer about upcoming investments for this Hockey season and how high you were on Stamkos. You were telling me that Stamkos was gonna seriously break out this year!! I remember you mentioning to me how low his SP Authentics had gotten and that you were thinking about picking up multiple copies of them. Just imagine the type of returns you could have gotten if you sunk some decent cash into him like you were saying!? :o

You make some really good points as well.

Didn't grab a single one :(. At that point I was still saving for a house, so I felt guilty putting any money elsewhere. Now that we're settled, this June/July is buying season
