Starling Castro: Accused of Assault

WBBM Newsradio in Chicago is reporting that Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexually assaulting a Chicago woman last September. No charges have been filed and he has not been arrested, but he is wanted for questioning.

WBBM has obtained a police report — heavily redacted — that says Castro took to woman to his apartment after a night of drinking. The woman blacked out, the report says, and when she awoke, Castro was assaulting her. CBS Chicago.com summarizes the report thusly:

It says that when she woke up she screamed and yelled at her alleged attacker, and left the apartment at about 5:30 a.m. getting a ride home from her friend. It would be 12 hours before the alleged victim would go to a hospital, and police would become involved.
By then, it is believed that Castro was on a plane, heading home to the Dominican Republic for the off-season.
He has not been back to the United States since then. His agent, Paul Kinzer, declined to comment as have the Cubs.

With all the false accusations famous people have thrown at them, I take stuff like this with a grain of salt.

Add in to the fact that many woman unfortunately cry rape when in actuality it is regret and I just never fully believe this stuff until all the evidence is brought to attention.

There's a big difference between blacking out and being passed out. If she was only blacked out, chances are it was consensual, at least at the time. If she was passed out, then it's pretty obviously rape.

It sounds to me like a completely bogus claim where the girl wants attention or is trying to get a settlement from her own poor decision-making that night.

Correction: when I made my statement, I was assuming by "black out" she meant she was the level of drunk where people don't remember what happened like her mind blacked out, I did not think she literally passed out and was asleep. If she was unconscious...then yeah it's a problem..but this will never in a million years hold up in court it's not even a big story it's total crap drunk girl accuses superstar of sexual assault..not gonna fly

If she made a "poor decision" then the latter part of your theory makes no sense. Nobody would have known if she had woken up and left.

There's a reason why the public report was severely redacted.

Not saying anybody is guilty here, but I find it disturbing how the professional athlete is always given a pass, as if because we watch them play ball or collect their cards, we know them so well; whereas, the accuser, who may very well be telling the truth, is automatically dismissed as a liar or a ***** because it is assumed that she knew exactly who the person was prior to engaging in sexual relations after having a few too many drinks.

You are correct but nowadays, almost all of the responsibility lies with the male.

In a sense, the woman bears little to no accountability because in some ways now, regret = rape.

Just last month the BBC reported that 20% of US women are ***** or attempted rape against them.

At a female US population of 150 million, that means 30 million US women were ***** or attempted to be *****.

Anyways this topic pisses me off so I wont comment on it anymore but I just thought I would point out that sexual assault sometimes is more a woman gets hammered or high and cant fully remember what happened.
