That seems like the right way to handle it. I think there may be a lesson there.

Who the hell cares. Does John Lackey personally affect any of your lives? Any of you personal friends or related to him? I'm betting no. So who cares what he does or doesn't do off the field. I'm not a fan of his so I don't care what he does on the field. I sure as hell don't care what he does off of it.

So for me, it's hard to pass a judgment on anyone when there seems to be as much disinformation out there as there is good information.

Interesting how things can be interpreted different ways... I thought the OP meant that Lackey should stick around to gather the life insurance money.
On a more serious note, it could be that SHE wanted a divorce, who knows? That way her family would get everything when she passes, instead of it making a rich man a tiny bit richer....

My point was I think it's ridiculous that anyone would care so much about what any athlete does away from the field. People are too involved with what the media reports about players x's personal life, stock holdings, where they ate dinner and so on. It's reached the point of being retartedly obessive.
If a guy is on my favorite team, I care about his production between the lines. If he wants to go home, kick his kids, do a line of coke, kill his dog and leave his cancer stricken wife? Who cares. So long as he shows up to work the next day and is productive. The day he stops producing on the field is the day I start caring.
