How do you go from talking to Jeff Garcia to Tyler Palko!?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ittsburgh/

Once upon a time, the Pittsburgh Steelers thought long and hard about adding to the team a quarterback who had become a star at Pitt.

But with the 21st overall pick in the 1983 draft, they opted instead for nose tackle Gabe Rivera. Six picks later, Dan Marino became a Miami Dolphins.

But now they've added another former Pitt quarterback whose last name ends with a vowel.

The Steelers are expected to sign Tyler Palko to the practice squad, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The only problem? He ain't no Dan Marino. Even though the powers-that-be at Pitt opted for Palko over yet another Italian who tosses footballs better than pizza dough (I can say that because I'm Italian, and because I like pizza dough, preferably after being cooked), Joe Flacco.

The Steelers needed an extra arm because Charlie Batch injured his wrist during a cameo appearance in overtime of Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. Dennis Dixon will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger.

If the Steelers move Batch to injured reserve, Palko could be moved to the active roster.

Yeah, he went to Pitt and he's from Pittsburgh. I thought he would be on a team by now as a 3rd stringer, instead of bouncing around from team to team.

They must be confident in Dixon if Ben would get hurt......I'm not.

I totally am. Dixon is going to be the permanent backup after this year anywyas. Much better then Batch IMO. batch was just a vet so they put him at 2. However Dixon out played him in the preseason and has way more upside.,

Dude Palko sucks

The only reason I'm not confident in Dixon YET is that we haven't seen him in any regular season games yet. Preseason is preseason. I do agree with you though, Palko does suck.

Even though Dixon was good in college, that doesn't mean much to me....Eric Crouch was a BEAST in college....and i think he made my sandwich at Subway earlier today.

Batch is as fragile as a freshly made china dish. I've always been a fan though.

I hear you....I have confidence in Dixon but Garcia would be a better option if Ben cannot go.
