For my Senior Seminar, I'm doing a research project on the public perception of steroids in baseball. I am currently in the process of collecting data and therefore could use some help filling out one of two very brief surveys.

The survey asks you to first read a very short press release about a Dominican baseball player and then to answer 9 questions about that player, as well as some more general questions about steroids in baseball. There are 9 total questions.

Please note that you are free to exit the survey for any reason, at any time, with no penalty.

The two surveys are identical other than one minor change. You can pick which of the two surveys you take (it doesn't matter--I still need responses to each), but please only take one of them.

EDIT: I currently have many more responses to survey A than B....so doing survey B would be more helpful at this time.

Here are the links. They will take you directly into the surveys, please read the brief press release and then answer the questions:

Your participation is appreciated. If you post in this thread once you have completed one of the surveys, I will thank your post.

For those interested, I will post my findings in a couple weeks once I have completed the project.

Done.

The blurb I read was a bit confusing in that if the player failed 2 drug tests 4 years ago (before he won the awards), why wasn't something done then? If something was done (suspension, etc), it doesn't mention it.

Good luck with your work!

Done, great topic. I had to do a similar thing and had to do a presentation but you had to pick the opposite side of the majority, so I had to pick the side that Steroids do not have as large an effect as people think. I am curious to see the results for sure.

Good luck with the results.

As an aside the survey struck me as being pretty somewhat "dated" by now, as steroids are now banned and tested for by MLB, but something like HGH is not tested for and it's use may be rampant. But I responded as to how I felt about "steroids" as that's how the questions were worded.

The different way the drug issues are handled by the media for baseball compared to football, for example, is something I find pretty striking. Football players violating the NFLs drug policy are not news and generally not covered or reported on other than the first announcement. i had to go look up why Santonio Holmes missed the fist 4 games with the Jets this year after watching the Pats-Jets game on Monday night. They never even mentioned his suspension due to a violation of the NFLs drug policy.

Glad to help out. I recently did a small write up about performance enhancers in my sports law class. Good luck!

Steroids may banned but believe me, the testing policy is a pretty weak and there are many steroids out there that arent detectable. Manny Ramirez is a great exmple of this. He passed all of his steroid tests. He got caught taking a substance linked to post cycling, he never tested positive for steroids.

The final question where respondents had the opportunity to elaborate upon whether or not those caught cheating should be eligible is difficult to answer because sometimes there *could* be shades of gray over the level of offense.

I think that they should all be eligible. I dont consider it cheating. Regardless of how you fell about steroids, the problem is that everyone is suspect. There arent many players who you can look at and say for sure that they arent/didnt use.

I generally disagree strongly, but this thread is about the survey & not discussing these issues LOL.

Thanks to all who have taken the survey. I'm still looking for a few more responses, especially to Survey B if there's anyone who hasn't taken it yet and wouldn't mind. Thanks again for your help.
