I'm going with a friend of mine, then we're heading up to the National Baseball Expo in Del Mar. Anyone else going to either event?

Registration was $35, now it's at $45. Strasburg and Gwynn and a few others are supposed to be there. There are autograph opportunities (my main reason for doing this since I am an IP AU RC collector); however, Strasburg isn't supposed to be signing at the event. Instead, the first 1,000 entrants got a signed Strasburg 5x7 photo. I picked up my race packet today and it had the Strasburg autograph inside. I also picked up my friend's so I could compare them to make sure they weren't auto-penned--and they look good (hand signed, black sharpie):

I'll be bringing a few cards just in case Strasburg does sign. If he doesn't, no big deal--I already got the autograph and there will be others signing there, too. Anyone know of any SDSU Aztec players I should be on the look out for? I graduated from SDSU, but I've never really followed their sports programs.

Thanks,
Anthony

EDIT: Updated with scans from today's autos

My time was just about 36 minutes or so. Someone posted above that Strasburg came in at 37 minutes, but I think that might be a little off. Strasburg passed my friend and I in the last couple minutes of the 5K. He must have finished around 33 or 34 minutes. He must have stopped to have breakfast or something.

A better scan of the 5x7:

Other autos from today's Strasburg 5K

Strasburg wasn't signing any cards/baseballs/jerseys etc., but he was signing the 5K bibs, so I was sure to get mine signed:

A couple posters signed by the SDSU Aztecs.

After the Strasburg 5K my friend and I went up to Del Mar to the National Baseball Expo and got a few more autographs. I've been wanting to get that Vizquel signed for a couple years, so that was very cool. Plus Latos on a 2007 Elite Jersey card is cool. As you can tell, I like getting RCs signed:

Re: Strasburg 5K

From the pic you posted it looks pre printed. Does the other look the same?

No, I compared the two. Different pen widths with other minor variations between my friend's auto'd picture and mine. A lot easier to see in person and/or a better pic. That one was taken with my computer's camera since I was too lazy to scan it.

Agreed on how it looks preprinted, the "halo" effect around the ink just screams preprint.

Regardless, you're the only one who has the best view of it and it wouldn't shock me at all to see Strasburg donate 1,000 autographs to San Diego State after he already donated a couple million right after he signed. He really seemed to get who got him where he is today and quickly paid it forward.

I just saw a few other people's auto'd 5x7--they're all clearly hand signed. If I have time I'll put up an actual scan instead of an iSight camera photo later.

Re: Strasburg 5K

I'm not going (I live in Maine), but they allowed me to sign up for the $35 and they are mailing me the signed photo and the tee shirt.

I thought $35 for a legit Strasburg photo was a pretty good price.

Re: Strasburg 5K

I'm doing the run tomorrow and my girlfriend is going to walk it. The bad part is I'm driving up from Irvine in the morning. I'll probably leave at 5:30 since it will take me about 1 1/2 hours to get there. The voucher for two padres tickets was for the first 1000 people. Everyone who registers gets a shirt and an autograph picture.

Are you running it or walking it?

Nice stuff.

Me and My dad where their filming some new products with interviews from the companys and we got a few player interviews from Omar Vizquel, Reggie Smith, Juan Echilberger and Carlos Hernandez.

Probably going back tomorrow to get some more player interviews.

I was bummed that you got Bret Boone, Grant, Bevacqua, etc. When I went thru the line, one of the volunteers was watching what people were getting signed. I had a card for both Bob and Bret Boone. He looked at me and said, "Don't even think of asking them to sign those". They're not signing any memorabilia. I didn't want to push the issue so I just got a poster signed and got out of line. I left the poster next to the trash after I got out of the line. I'm watching the people in line after me and a guy brings out his own poster for Carney and Bret Boone to sign and I'm like WTF? The volunteer tried to stop that guy too but he was an older man and Carney and Boone kinda looked at the volunteer with a weird look and signed them anyways.

The one good thing is I got Tony Gwynn to sign my bib along with Strasburg. Gwynn was sitting down behind the fence near the restrooms. I saw another couple people ask for his autograph so I went over to see if he would sign my bib and my girlfriends as well. I also got John Carney to sign a couple of cards I brought before the race started.

When I was younger, I faced Juan Eichelberger in a baseball game. We played a Mexican League all star team and he was on the team we faced. I hit a double off him. We played a double header against him and I went home between games and got a couple of cards for him to sign after the game. I think Erubiel Durazo was on the team as well.

I ran the 5K in 27:01 as well.

Went back today and got interviews with Randy Jones, The founder of the expo and some lady who played for the Womans professional league in the 1940's.

I have a long long long long long day of editing tomorrow ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

Nice finish time. I took it pretty slow.

I didn't even see Gwynn there. I saw an interview with him on YouTube. Glad to see he's on the mend and getting ready to coach. It would be cool to get Gwynn to sign the bib some time.

I was glad to get the Boone cards signed. A person in front of me was getting cards signed so I felt like that opened the door for me to take out my cards. I just had them in a little box in my pocket. I already have a Bevacqua that looks better than that one above--the pen he was using was pretty bad--same with Boone (although, I don't have any other Boone autos). My friend had a Bob Boone RC and got that signed. He planned ahead. That would have been cool to add to the collection.
