Stupid question...if everyone loves the 90's inserts?

Much of the aura with the great 90's insert set, is simply that at the time they were realeased the autograph and GU jersey cards did not exist, and if they did, they were maybe under 5-10 sets total for the year that featured autographs. The first GU jersey card was produced in 96. And it wasnt until mayb 3 years after that initial release that the craze started. So for much of the 90's it was shiny insert cards. Now , with the autographed cards and GU bringing in the money for boxes, cases etc, i guess these companys do not see the point on spending extra money for good lookin insert sets.

SPx football (and hockey it seems) are giving it a shot, and making the shadowbox card. you should check it out.. wax heaven got a proto.

yep, value and interest of nearly everything is dropping. GU are still liked, but it cant be only a piece of white jersey... there has to be some thought into it as well

My thought is...if you are going to get a plain white jersey...wouldn't you at least like the card to have a badass design?I think we can all vouch for that.

exactly, when the jersey thing started people would just be psyched to get one. now that its nothing, they cant just lean on them with lazy design. as everyone has basically said they need to incorporate it into the card way better.

they think they are putting a cherry on top of an ice cream sundae but they are putting a cherry on top of a coiley turd. lets replace the turd with something yummey

Many/most of the card companies now are saying that their #1 goal is to get "kids" back into collecting, or that they are gearing their products towards "kids"...

I think bringing back food/toy cards would be a GREAT way to accomplish that.

Topps or UD can bring back more test, sample, promo, preview, prototype, and unannounced insert cards. They can also create special cards in food/toy products like they did in the 70s, 80s & early 90s. I would like to see Wiffle Ball/Burger Chef disc cards, Hostess cards, or Kelloggs cards of Albert Pujols. How about a box of Twinkies or Ding Dongs with a 3 card panel on the bottom that included 2 stars and a rookie?

Agreed. I mean, we still have refractors today but they don't have the same appeal as they did in the 90's. Probably because you can get what, 6 or more per box? 15 years ago, you were lucky to get 2 per box, if that.

UD tried to recreate the crusade idea with the product with the blue holographic/red/green cards. The product that many do not even realize how rare the blue's are.

Those are the ones I'm assuming he was referring to as well, 2006 UD Special F/X, with the un-numbered blue refractor parallels that are so hard to find. I found both of the Biggio blues on eBay within the last month or so. One was in with a small lot of other Biggio inserts and parallels, described pretty much correctly with a decent photo, but not highlighted at all and not mentioned in the title. I got the entire lot for about $5, including shipping. The other one was listed separately, very clearly labeled and described for what it was, and it went for about $26 plus shipping. It took me three years to find them and they were fun to chase--easy to say now that I have them. I imagine some people will have a very difficult time finding theirs and the set would be nearly impossible to put together. Both because I don't think the product was all that popular and a lot of people don't recognize what they have with the blue refractors since they are un-numbered. But I don't think they are nearly as attractive as the 1998 Crusades.
