The SNL parody is pretty hilarious. "Blankets. How do those work?"

Technically a rhetorical question is a question asked for a purpose other than to obtain the information the question asks. But nothing in the original post says anything about anything being rhetorical.

Normally I wouldn't expect anyone to have responded to a rhetorical question they may have asked, but you responded. So here we are.
Huh. I think you should go back and read the thread. Actually read it.

So why on a freeway do they charge a toll? (shouldn't it be called a Toll-way)

Who was the first guy to eat a Rocky Mountain Oyster and what made him do it?

ok, back to the original question.

i dont understand why a washed-up minor-league nobody still sells sometimes.
as a U.F. collector, i sometimes go after kids that never made the big leagues, and still get outbid.

i don't understand the 'value' & 'price point' of some card sets.
cards can clearly be made for $0.99-$2.00/pack (see: Opening Day, base Topps, etc);
yet, you throw in autos 1 per box, you can jack that up to $6-10/pack?

and i don't understand why some card sets can be debunked as not-authentic game-used or not-liscenced;
and they still sell & are collected? Oh Well.

Crazy thing is that I think you are way high on your $.99-$2.00 estimate. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it only costs Topps $.25 to make a pack of base Topps. The profit margin would blow your mind if those numbers were ever exposed.

I wish it were a public company and we could see inside. I bet it costs pennies to produce a pack of Topps Series 1. As for cost per pack for the entire release, I bet it's less than a $1 FOR SURE.

I'm sure some guys on this board have insight to this side topic I guess.

This is a really good thread/discussion... Not that anyone cares, but my two cents are as follows...

One could boil down this hobby to us all collecting worthless pieces of colorful cardboard... I don't think this is the case but some people I'm sure do. You can obviously deviate from this statement a little but the point is a lot of this hobby is built off of marketing, buzz, excitement, etc... more importantly, PERCEIVED VALUE. That's about it... I've said this many many many times, how come I can buy an ENTIRE game-used baseball bat of Albert Belle for $100 (or less) BUT a little stamp size piece of a bat on a card or (god forbid) a bat knob card one day would sell for multiples of this?! How come I can buy signed baseball all day long of Albert Belle for $20 but a STICKER auto'ed card is much more and sometimes over $100 or even $200?!

I guess the point being is it's a hobby and we all have our reasons and what makes us do it and what makes us happy. At the end of the day, it's all perceived value and if you try to sit down and evaluate what we're all doing in this hobby, we'll probably shake our heads and go WTF haha.

Anyways, carry on... thanks for the rant - I STILL LOVE THIS HOBBY

Really, where can I find an auto'd ball of his for $20 or a game used bat for a $100? I'd pony up.

"ICP suicide hotline; you won't do it!"

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Freedom Card Board mobile app

Just think of the poor guy who's gotta clean that ---- up! If yer gonna do it, go outside and do it.

Every now and again I'll listen to their stuff but now that I'm a grown adult, I just can't get into it as much. Also, I loved Twizted!

Haha, I can't believe you challenging me on this, I'm probably his biggest collector... I have 3 game used bats of his and all three I got for $100 or less (I can try and pull the eBay email confirmations if you'd like).

As for autographed baseballs.... Wow, you made me actually look it up and I was at the top end of the range here.... there are some for $10 sold on eBay and most around $15 but there are some at the ~$20 range. Feel free to eBay search "Belle Ball" and go to sold listings yourself.

I sold a JOEY Belle gamer for $780 in 2006. Those are obviously much rarer than the Alberts.

I don't think I've seen a Joey before, so not sure but I'd assume it'd be MUCH rarer, yes. As for price, not sure exactly. I wouldn't be the buyer of any bat of his for more than $100 or so... but 2006 was 7 years ago, who knows.

Not really calling anyone a liar but it just seems I don't see real gu stuff with authentication for sale of any player that cheaply. Every now and again I do but it's usually on sale and some guy I've never heard of. Belle isn't exactly Pujols but he isn't exactly a nobody either.

As for auto'd balls, are they legit or just random Ip stuff that isn't authenticated? If not authenticated, I could see them fetching very little. If I found one on the sweet spot, OMLB, in blue ball point pen, that I either knew was real or it had authentication from one of the trusted few I go with, I'm a buyer at $20.
