Sorry to hear about your friend.
A Viking funeral is where they put the body on a boat in the water and burn the body?

There was a Viking Funeral in Ireland in recent weeks. I found this on google.

Viking funerals" have been held for individuals fulfilling their final wishes, such as a recent ceremony in Ireland for Patric Salo, who had his ashes placed in a replica boat, set on fire, and launched into the sea. Another example is a WWII veteran in New Jersey who had his ashes given a similar send-off with the help of the Coast Guard.

My friend is two years older --Was my source of beer . During summer i would drive his boat so he could water ski . There was three couples of us that would go to MASTERS SKI tournament 40 plus years ago . Think South Georgia in July 100 plus degrees -Thousands of fans several hundred yards of coolers with beer =NO BEER on beach unless in cup . The Deputies stood at bridges -warning was " can't you read sign"-----also had bikini contest -YES I did have pictures made with those .Wife saw them so I took her to the French international champ for a picture LOL My wife has a manufactory test ski serial numbered -- just couldn't make all the turns = wasn't 6 foot tall . I wanted to be boat driver but THAT cost $$$$ and training away from home . I was driver for a few on local lake . Many stories still CLASSIFIED .
