I stop by Shantique's as often as I can, usually when I am off work early. The owner, Red is a pretty nice guy. They have a great selection of cards and supplies, not to mention antiques...
The other shop in town hardly carries any wax. That is the main reason I stop here, they have the latest releases at decent prices.
I bought 7 packs of 2011 BCDP.

My local shop is called the Book Broker. They buy sell trade everything, books, videogames, movies, collectibles, and sportscards. I've been a customer there for at least 15 years. In my pic I'm holding supplies I bought that day, $7 worth. Supplies and singles are the only thing I really buy or trade for there. I haven't bought packs there in 10 years or so. I'll let you fill in the blank there. A guy named Chuck is the owner, but I mainly deal with one guy I've known for years over there named Blake, who is a really good guy.

Thanks for the contest Mox and Gilmo!

Sorry about the small pic. When I uploaded it to photobucket this is the size it was, I'll try to resize later.

Re: Support Your Local Card Shop CONTEST ends 7 Jan 2012

Finally getting around to posting this.

I have a hobby shop in Kenosha, WI that I deal with. Even though I have moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I still buy almost all my supplies and wax from M&M's. I have dealt with this shop for over 11 years now, great people. They have auctions and pack wars on Saturdays, and will open the shop with a phone call if something is needed. The owners are Marcus and Mary Andrews.

My lastest purchases were for 5 cases of Bowman Draft, and I traveled the day before Thanksgiving to pick-up on the release date.

On a recent trip to Big Hit Sportscards in Spanish Fort, AL I picked up some Topps Chrome. The co-owner is Nathan Carraway and they are located at 6450 Highway 90 - Suite L, Spanish Fort, Alabama 36527, their number is 251-626-5050.

I don't know much about the shop, as I just recently moved here myself, but this is the best shop I've ever had a chance to be a part of. They run a great Trade Night/Pack War on a monthly basis. They have great cards on their eBay site and they keep their box prices low as well. I've never walked out feeling like I got taken advantage of, and they are just as excited to watch you open a product as you are opening it. In fact, there have been many times they have gone above and beyond to give my a great deal and it's greatly appreciated. Nathan and the guys up there do a great job of engaging the customer and showing that it's more than just a business to them. The picture is of Nathan and myself, as they don't really have a sign out front it made more sense to take a picture in front of the card case.

Today I went to the FCB Shop and chatted up Gilmore for a few minutes. He had some nut job call up and try to get big money for a $20 football card, and then proceeded to go to war with another customer, but this time in fantasy role playing land. Good times. I decided to purchase a box of 2011 Topps Lineage. Never really broke a lot in Chris' store, but never a bad chat when talking to him. If you want Bowman Chrome high-end cards, Chris is your man!

Sorry bout the pic. Looked ok on the phone after my 5 year old took the shot. But hey, I'm at the shop holding my card!

The owners name is Jim. Nicest guy ever! I have been shopping here ever since I moved up here to Idaho about 9 years ago. I cleaned him out of his Bagwell inventory in no time. The best thing about Jim is that he keeps an eye out for goodies for some of his customers. He knows I"m a Bagwell guy, and when a 1 of 1 came into the store, he called me first before calling his short-print customers. Without him, I would not have my only 1/1.

The shop is set up pretty sweet. He has gone out of his way to make it the kind of place you would want to stay a few hours at. I know I have. he has flats and tables of cards to dig thru (which I have many times), and has tvs installed throuoghout playing games and espn. He even remodeled his own office and backroom and changed it into a "living room" complete with a big screen tv and a couch for chilling and sorting cards. If I had more free time and my 5 year old was willing to spend more than 5 minutes in the store, I could seriously kill a few afternoons there. When I take my girls to the airport for their trips to california, i usually swing by and spend the rest of the day there, just going thru box after box of cards. Believe me when I say, he has no more Bagwell cards. I got em all.

With me in Idaho and him in Spokane, its usually a 30-40 minute drive for me to get to there. I wish I could visit more, but he also calls if he's got something for me so I know it wont be a wasted trip. I am glad hes here, because without him I bet my collection wouldnt be where it is today. You can find a picture of his shop on my website. At least a better picture than what I took last night :P

Re: Support Your Local Card Shop CONTEST ends 7 Jan 2012

I visited mt local card shop, Chameleon Comics and Cards in NYC. I've been going to this shop for around five years now, and it is one of the few card shops that still exists in New York City. The shop started off just selling comic books under the name Comics Underground in 1989. Soon thereafter, they expanded, purchasing the storefront they now occupy and dealing in sports cards in addition to comic books.

One of the reasons I love Chameleon is that they somehow maintain fair prices, despite the astronomical rent that New York City business have to pay. It's location is way down by Wall Street (next to the World Trade Center), so they have all types of people walk through their doors: businessmen, tourists, homeless people, etc.

They have a good but not great selection of singles that are reasonably priced, but my favorite part about Chameleon are the boxes. They almost always have products I'm looking to bust in stock, and it's fun and easy to bust in the shop whether you go pack by pack, or take an entire box. The workers are usually willing to offer discounts, and they are also generous when it comes to penny sleeves and top loaders for any hits you may pull.

There's always a lot of mojo flowing through the shop. I pulled perhaps my best card (a Reggie Jackson Sweet Spot Classic Jumbo Logo patch) from Chameleon, and I've seen quite a few other sick cards come out of the shop. All in all, there are very few good card shops in and around NYC, but Chameleon is one of them. Thanks for the contest!

What I Got: Box of 2011 Bowman Draft Picks (pull a Taylor Jungmann auto and not much else)

Re: Support Your Local Card Shop CONTEST ends 7 Jan 2012

Stopped by my shop today. They just opened at the end of the summer, and I really hope
they make it as it is always nice having a local shop about 5 minutes from the house.

The shop is CT's Hobbies, and the owners name is Cory.

They carry boxes, singles, supplies, etc for sports cards. They also carry Magic, Pokemon,
comics, board games, D&D, Star Wars, and many other RPG's, and all the books long with.
They also have Cubs, Bears, Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls and even Packers banners, signs, pennants, etc.

They have tables in the back for Magic tounaments, and share a hallway with the local ice cream/candy shop...

He just got approved as a topps HTA store and is getting approved by Panini, so he should carry more wax soon.
He also has a supplier for any kind of supplies, holders, cases imaginable.

SDC10563Medium.jpg

I bought a few packs and held up the boxes to pimp the store for him a bit...

I think I have a card problem. I have been to 3 of the shops listed (Lubbock, Odessa, and Spokane) and none are my LCS. I'll try to get a pic of D's in Odessa up.

Shop Owner - John Merkel

Like a lot of shops, I'm sure this shop has seen better days and I'm sure it falls into some of the pitfalls that come from trying to run an LCS in this day and age, but unlike many shops, it is still around. I'd imagine a big reason for that is the shop owner John.....He is a really nice guy.
It is a trip to get to, but I try to stop in when I can. I usually stop in when I need supplies, or when I'm low on cash and want to try some packs, especially when stuff like Topps Jumbo comes out and it's a pack that carries some value.
On this trip I needed to stop in and pick up some boxes (Have some time off at the Holiday so I'm going to try and organize and clean, we'll see how that goes) and I couldn't leave without picking up a few packs. I probably would have spent quite a bit more, but I had to bring my girlfriend along so she could take the picture. Guess I'll have to take another trip (alone) sooner than later.

That's my entry. Think I included everything needed. Good luck all and have a great holiday!!!

There were a lot more shops in Chicago, especially on the north side when I lived there from 2003-2007.

Only problem, I wasn't collecting then... ::facepalm::

Yeah I'm not sure how many of those are still around.
When I moved to Chicago one of the first things I checked was hobby shops. Only problem was I wound up walking around confused, because it turns out the two nearest to me no longer existed (even though they were still listed on online).

There's another I know of but it's tougher to get to and has weird hours. I use Public Transportation and Elite is easy to get to, just a few blocks right off the Brown Line stop.
So it's nice to be able to go to when I need something.

My local card shop is Bobs cards. He has been in business for over 20 years in Tuscaloosa. He specializes in Alabama memorabilia from autographs to Daniel Moore paintings. This is a picture of my 10 year old daughter holding a Trent Richardson signed jersey that she just got...She is ecstatic over Trent since we live in Tuscaloosa and I graduated from the University of Alabama. I am trying to get her hooked on cards and autographs. Bobs card shop carries a little of everything from vintage to modern. He was also the agent for George Teague back a few years ago. Thanks for the contest and idea for supporting our Local shops. While we were in the Mall we got to meet Roy Upchurch(he caught the winning pass back in 2009 for Alabama against Auburn in the Iron Bowl) Roy was at T-town Gallery which also carries Alabama paintings and signatures. On a side note if you saw the video(or read the Sports Illustrated Article) of the April 27, 2011 tornado this was the mall where someone was found on top of the building.

Greg and Debra are good people who happen to own and operate my local card shop - MVP Sportscards in Laguna Hills, CA. I give them as much of my business as I can afford simply because they are so polite and warm to both me and my kids each and every time we stop by.

Greg played an important role in my putting together a nice vintage set of 1958 Topps football recently. He allowed me to flip through his stash and I was able to upgrade conditions and add missing cards for ridiculously generous prices. Last week, I bought a box of 2011 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects and yesterday, my kids and I spent our allowance on some cool packs and supplys. Times are tough of course but they have managed to hang around for over twenty years. I would love nothing more than to see them stick around for at least another twenty!

Thanks for the contest guys!

Hello, Shane Upton here, I've been going to PJ's for the last 4 years besides the 7 months i was deployed in the Middle East. My best pull was a Triple Threads Andre Johnson 1/1 relic patch from 2010 Triple Threads. I love the selection that he offers for Football boxes. I don't like the location, it's bad for him location wise, but it's the right price for his rent. I went in today and grabbed a Feb. Beckett and box of 2011 Bowman Sterling Football. He also said business has been REALLY, REALLY slow, especially from the adults. Which is unfortunate, so I try to help him out and he looks out for me as well being that we was prior Navy as well. His store is featured on YouTube so you might know him from "cisco" who'm i've met a few times. Good Luck everybody!
