An amazing at bat. An amazing moment in baseball history. I still get chills, and I'm not even a Dodgers fan. A's fans, you might want to hit the BACK button on your mouse. At least you won your title the next year.

Kirk Gibson's only plate appearance in the 1988 World Series:

Gibson had 7 HRs and 21 RBIs in 21 career postseason games. The at bat in the video was his last playoff appearance.

I would appreciate the moment a lot more if Gibson wasn't such a *******.

Don't know how anyone could possibly hate Joe Buck.

I like Buck as a football announcer, but aikman kills it. For baseball hes just not that into it. I know there arent going to be anymore Vin Scullys,Ernie Harwells, or Jack Bucks but hearing the call on the Gibson play takes me back.

Absolute WORST moment for me in my life as a baseball fan. I was 15 in 1988 and the A's were my favorite team.......

Didn't Canseco hit a grand slam to dead center in this game that dented a camera? I am going off of my memory of watching the game just once, live.

Me too. See I'm not all that bad.

BTW, That was the game with Canseco's crush HR to center off the camera. I didn't even say anything at all for like 20 minutes 'cuz my Dad, who was and still is, a Die-Hard just sat there for about 10 minutes. Most of the time he was complaining 'cuz he thought Eck had struck out Davis right b4 that, and it was called a ball.

And,if you look carefully in the background, thru the bleacher roof supports, you can see some cars leaving, and then hitting their brakes right then. Always wondered if they were listening to the game, and just realized what they missed seeing...

Plus, I always thought the loss to the Reds in '90 was the bigger upset. Both times, one hot pitcher got 'em...

As much as i despise that clip, I've been trying to figure out an adequate analogy to what that feat would be like today.

The A's were overwhelming favorites.....had the best closer in the game at the time pitching against an aging, beat up, wounded, has been all-star (yes, I'm biased)

I think that is why the feat is so revered as one of the best moments (barf!) of all time......a true David vs. Goliath

What would the equivelant of that moment be today......

I'm sure Eck could be replaced by Mo or Hoff but who would fit the bill as the wounded veteran???????

But did you know that Gibson NEVER made an All Star team? That might make finding the wounded veteran a little tougher.

Quite a feat to win the MVP without making the All-Star team. Gibson's 4 year run with the Tigers, 84-87, was phenomenal. And he is the author of two of my most vivid sports memories, the HR off Eck being discussed and the HR off Gossage in the 84 WS.

Off the top of my head, I remember Terry Pendleton did it with the Braves in 1991 and Jimmy Rollins did it in 2007.

I think there was another MVP winner in the 80s or 90s that didn't make the AS team. It may be more common than we think.
