Wow, that is great.
I placed a bid (albeit not a very high one as funds are tight.) It's still a Pujols RC Auto, and if there was any seller I'd want to buy off, it would be him. (I've actually bought off of him in the past and he was great to deal with then as well.)

I give the seller credit for pointing out the trimming. I wouldn't have punched a hole in it though.

What beckett and psa needs to do is slab these trimmed copies in a different color slip and cleary mark the slip "trimmed".

The card is legit, but it's been altered. This way, the card isn't making its way back into the market raw and people don't need to punch a hole in it.

Good if someone is looking for a Pujols rookie for PC.

Classy or not, stupid move...

If the seller is willing to lose the money on it, I'm not sure how it's stupid. It assures that this card won't get back out into the market listed as "mint", only to have another buyer get screwed over when they submit it to BGS.

How so??? By not trying to rip others off at some point down the road. This is a great move in all honesty, maybe not in the best interest of his pocketbook, but definitely not stupid.

Most people just are not that honest though-----if those were not hole punched, rest assured the people buying them would have been taking them to a show and screwing someone over or even relisting them at some point on ebay and not disclosing that they were trimmed.

I wish everyone had enough money to just punch a hole in trimmed cards. It's a perpetual problem. I think I'm going to start doing that if I ever get caught with a trimmed card.

I agree. I can't think of another way to ensure someone does not buy it and pass it off as a regular untrimmed card.

Even if BGS of PSA came up with an "altered" holder, shady dealers would simply buy them and crack them out.

I would have not problem buying this card and having it slab authentic

The problem with just selling it advertised as a trimmed card is that someone will buy it, and quickly turn around and relist it 3 weeks later after the auction is removed from completed listings. They will advertise it as a nm-mt card, knowing that has supposedly been trimmed.

Nice!

It would be great to get this thing slabbed by PSA/DNA--they would slab it as an authentic autograph, right? It would be like sending in a signed 3x5 card or something. The auto is still legit, even if the card is altered. I wouldn't mind having something like that in my collection at all.

People crack cases all the time...how would that prevent them from doing it in a trimmed holder? Punching the hole is really the only way to ensure no one else gets screwed in the future although I wouldn't have done it.

You are right, the only way to do that without punching a hole in the card is if Beckett/PSA...etc kept a log via serial numbers. That would still leave a gap for un-serial numbered cards though.

That's why he punched a hole in the card

Yes, I know that. People said they would either sell as is or just mention that it was trimmed, so I said that.
