49'ers fans must be rejoicing - as Ginn is now with them. :P

Trade was for a 5th round pick - as a Dolphins fan I guess I'm happy with the compensation because I really thought it may be a 6th-7th.

Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs - but as I said in another thread - he is 3 years in and really shown no signs of improvement. Not to mention he was 4th worst in the league in percentage of drops and worst to me he is supposed to be a "playmaker" yet he averaged barely over 1 YAC per reception - horrific numbers.

I can see how SF probably views it as a low risk/high reward move though.

Everytime I hear Ginn's name I can't help but think of the Dead Schembechlers...an Ohio State fan band who sing about almost nothing other than Ohio State football and/or the hatred of Michigan.

They have a song called "Ted Ginn Did Everythin," among others.

I'll have to check that one out. 'Chad Henne is a Joke' is epic.

He's just a high pick returner and nothing else. Couldn't catch or run routes. The problem with that a team can sign a beer truck driver to return kicks and still do the same job Ginn did.

Yeah, his main role is probably going to kick/punt returner. We have been looking to acquire one since the beginning of the off season and even looked into a possible trade for Josh Cribbs but nothing developed.

This could end up being a nice deal where Ginn shores up the return game or he could suck, we release him and lose a 5th round pick. Either way I highly doubt this deal is going make that much difference at all.

Niners needed a kick returner bad, so this is good for them. They better not promote Ginn ahead of Morgan or Hill though.

Agreed in all cases. Especially Hill, who finally seems to have cleared the logjam of random WR's. Would like to see him get his reps as a possession guy. Good at finding space within the zone.

Love the deal for the Niners!

I think most folks (including NFL executives) have always underestimated the impact a great Kick/Punt Returner can have on a team, and getting a potentially explosive one for a 5th round pick is a steal IMO.

Funny thing is Ginn has never even been a great return man.
Did he improve last year? Yes Can he be very good? Probably. It's funny how one game can change people's perceptions. He had the great game vs. the Jets (and I was thankful for that), but I don't think 1 performance out of a 3 year span can define a player.

Miami didn't even use him as a PR because he made so many mistakes. And if you take away the Jets game his KR average was only around 20. Not trying to be MR. Anti-Ginn, but it's funny to me that I've read all day on sports sites about how SF is getting a great return man - but if you watched him the past 3 years, you are more likely to see him slipping down, misjudging the ball, running away from blockers, etc. then breaking anything close to a long run.

As long as he can catch a damn punt, i am ok with that.

I guess the thing that I'm missing is just how bad the SF return situation must be. So as a Dolphins fan I may see Ginn as not great in the return game, but from what I've been reading today - I guess that's still an upgrade over whatever you guys had.

We didn't even have a return man who could catch the ball. Ginn is a bagillion times better than what we had. I don't think he'll get a chance on offense. Even if we're in a 5 WR set Davis or Gore is usually the 5th man. I'm just glad that we wont be wasting a 1st pick on CJ Spiller.

I actually do think Ginn may be able to contribute some on offense....he's not that bad that he can't be a 4 or 5.

All the frustration from Dolphins fans is due to them trying to make him into a #1-2 and having wasted a top 10 pick on him. Considering that - he sucked hard. Him being a 3,4,5 guy and costing a 5th round pick - he probably will turn out to be a good pick-up for you guys.

The Dolphins just took him way too high. Nobody thought he'd go near that high. Buffalo and Oakland do the same thing EVERY draft. They take a guy WAY too high and then they're shocked when the player disappoints.

So true. Those teams almost always pick-up guy 20 picks too early.
