I tend to disagree

OPS -4 years before yankees contract
.954
.886
.963
.962
Average of .941

Since New contract
.948
.846
.835
.807
Average of .859, with a severe downtrend, average of .829 the last three years, 112 point drop from pre-contract.

So, they aren't paying him for slugging or on base percentage either? Practically 100 point drop in OPS isn't good my friend.

He's doing what the Yankees ask him to do. Try and hit home runs - now I don't agree with the Yankees asinine request, but they tend to ask one or two people in the lineup to just try and hit home runs and not worry about their average (Maris, Nettles, Giambi, Teixeira, and now Granderson). You notice that most of these guys put up monster seasons OPS wise on their previous teams and they get to the Yanks and the HR are there but their OPS drops significantly.

Um, no. Hafner has been useless in the field for years and Cashman basically said as much. Youkilis at 3rd is the best option they have there and 1B can be fielded by anyone (remember Giambi?). Likely going to be a Diaz/Dan Johnson/Juan Rivera mix of crap there, but at least Youk should be solid at the tougher defensive position.

I can't believe I'm actually relieved we have Youkilis on the team...

They might as well call Team Mexico star Jorge Cantu and throw him in the mix.

So, you are telling me that when the Yankees gave Tex $22.5 million a year, all they wanted was .250 avg and 30 Hr? They can get that for $8-10 million elsewhere. So I believe you are mistaken.

No what I'm telling you is that...I know for a fact there are certain players that the Yankees have said "stop worrying about your average and starting hitting home runs"...whether Tex is one of them or not, I have no idea, but the numbers fit the criteria. I know Giambi was one. History says Maris was another.

Also remember, Boston and Baltimore were heavily courting Tex, so that has a huge influence on the Yankees signing him.

I believe that they very well could have told him that the last two years, because they realized he was never going going to hit .300 again and are going to take what they can get at this point. This contract is going to be UBER painful in two years.

I'm not sure how anyone can even argue Teixera's contract....the Yankees are paying him to hit HRs? Interesting you say that because his average HR's from the Yanks [34] is the exact same as from 03-08 [34]....drive in runs? He also did that better before he came to New York [av 113 to 106], yet a large drop in every other number across the board, BA/OBP/SLG, etc you name it. Massive overpay and skrip is right, this contract is going to look reallyy bad in a few years.

Where exactly can they get a 30 hr 100 rbi perenial gold glover for 8 to 10 million a year?

No one stated the Yankees plan was concrete. If the Yanks had just let Giambi and Tex do their thing, they might have won 3 or 4 more games each year, IMO.

Garret Jones, Mark Reynolds, Chris Davis, Adam Laroche, Kendry MOrales, to name a few.
You cant be serious with these names. LaRoche is the only one of them that comes anywhere close to Tex. None of those guys consistently put up numbers anywhere near Texieras.
