As the local show here is coming up in a few weeks I always wonder what the ice is like in other rinks...

With respect to Hockey Only - What's your local card show like? What do they have? How often does it occur? How much is there?

The local show here happens about once every 2-3 months. Usually about 10 dealers with hockey stuff, varies from GU and Auto stuff down to common singles. Some dealers have a couple hundred cards, others have 10,000. Usually a good show where I can come away with something I've been looking for about half the time. Hit or miss on new hockey issues, usually one guy will have some stock, but not much...guessing it has a lot to do with those issues hitting the bay more often that not these days...

My local card show is...

...non-existent :(

We used to have a pretty good show at the Tacoma Dome (about 40 minutes south of me), but they stopped doing that a few years ago...otherwise, there are no good "big" shows in Washington.

There's a few minor ones here and there, but I've been too them and they're not very good.

And obviously in respect to hockey, there is little to none at them (with us not having a team in Washington).

welcome to FCB it's always good to see new members join our small-ish hockey community.

sadly we don't have many shows here in Pittsburgh either. which is strange in such a strong hockey market. there are several monthly mall shows but they usually suck. there are a few large yearly shows but they focus mainly on baseball and football. we do have a few really good shops though and they make up for the lack of shows.

Hockey is pretty major at the card shows here, which isn't surprising.

There are usually two dealers with packs / boxes, etc, and then another 5-10 guys who have relatively recent singles. There are usually two guys with the old stuff (not the good old stuff, but the old Jello boxes and stuff). A lot of it depends on who can make it out to the shows to set up.

The shows that we have here in Calgary are usually 90-95% Hockey (Anything and everything Hockey). We have a monthly show that runs from September-May. Probably has 10-15 dealers. Some are better than others , but our monthly shows attract a couple dealers from Edmonton and once and awhile a few dealers from the other surrounding cites show up (like Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat).

Then always once a year, sometimes twice a year we have our "big" show. The Big show usually has about 90-100 tables and usually ITG/UD are there promoting something or having a redemption program. The big show always has 2 or 3 pretty decent autograph guests (usually always hofers or future Hofers) and it attracts dealers and customers from Edmonton, Vancouver, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Minnesota, Washington state, Montana, Idaho etc. Its usually always a fun weekend and its actually coming up here in May, so im looking forward to it. The only thing im upset about this year is that they are not running the show on Friday. Usually are big shows are 3 day events and on Fridays the show would run from around 4PM till 9 or 10PM, but they dont have Friday listed this time for some reason :(

Heres a link to the show if u are interested...

This years looks pretty fun as its being held in a big convention center/Casino that has a restaurant/night club. Im seriously thinking about renting a room Saturday night with the old lady. Then i can go card show all day, casino and night club, sleep, card show again 8-)

We also are pretty close to Edmonton (about 2.5 hours) so i usually attend Edmontons big shows every year as well. Edmonton had 3 big shows this year, so the collectors there were lucky this year

Thanks

Thanks for the replies thus far. I always wonder about what's where, as noted, sometimes it's surprising where the good and not so great shows are.

Keep them coming - details/links are great!

I just moved to western PA (about an hour south of Pittsburgh) and as mentioned before, not many shows with hockey. I did go to a show at the mall in Monroeville and there was some nice Penguins stuff.....and a few unopened boxes of hockey.

The shows I went to in northeastern PA weren't too bad.....the thing I miss the most is my wax dealer.....he had the best prices on almost everything!!!!!

I only found 1 card shop so far in McMurray, PA.....very nice shop, big selection, and the prices aren't too bad....some were high, but most were decent.
