Men arrested after break in at Heinz Field

Sunday, May 23, 2010
By Kaitlynn Riely, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Three men were arrested this morning after police said they scaled a fence to enter Heinz Field.

Shazad Hosi Mehta, 28, of Elmhurst, Ill., Adil A. Minocherhomjee, 22, of La Hoya, Calif., and Neville Noshir Medhora, 27, of Austin, Texas, were charged with criminal trespass and conspiracy to commit criminal trespass.

At around 7 a.m. this morning, Heinz Field security reported they saw three men attempting to climb Gate B into the stadium, Sgt. Patrick Knepp of the Pittsburgh Police's Zone 1 station said.

Security reported the men were unable to climb that gate so they moved to Gate A, where they "used themselves like human ladders" and made it inside the park, Sgt. Knepp said.

Mr. Mehta and Mr. Medhora made it inside the field, while Mr. Minocherhomjee stayed outside the gate, police said. The Pittsburgh Police were called to the scene, and Sgt. Knepp said when they approached , the men started running across the field. They were detained at gunpoint, Sgt. Knepp said.

Sgt. Knepp said the men told police they were trying to get a wallet they had left in Heinz Field.

"The story's not credible," Sgt. Knepp said, since the last game played in Heinz Field was in December.

They were released on $5,000 unsecured bond by magistrate Richard Olasz, Sgt. Knepp said. They are due in city court Thursday morning for a hearing.

Heinz Field's security reported no vandalization or damage to the facility, Sgt. Knepp said. The Pittsburgh police have notified the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security about the incident, he said. They have increased patrols on the North Shore around PNC Park, Heinz Field and Rivers Casino.

GREEN BAY

Police in Green Bay find bullet holes pierced Lambeau Field Atrium

Police in Green Bay are investigating two bullet holes that were found in the glass of the Lambeau Field Atrium on Monday.

"The incident apparently occurred sometime after 10 p.m. Sunday when no guests or employees were in the Atrium," Packers spokesman Jeff Blumb said in a statement.

Police have not announced any suspects or motive in the incident, which is considered an isolated incident.

The bullet holes were found high in the Atrium glass. -- Sean Leahy

Yeah, rumors are that they were at a wedding held at Heinz Field on Saturday night and one of them lost their wallet. Ummmmm, I'm pretty sure they weren't down on the field Saturday since it was raining very hard here for most of the day.

::facepalm:: There's no indication that either event was the work of terrorists. I bet that people hop the fence all the time to get a good look, but because these three happen to be middle eastern all of a sudden they're terrorists. The bullet holes could have just as easily been from some drunk redneck as anybody else.

While I agree with you with what was written in the article for the most part, I am curious as to why these three individuals happen to be together when they are from California, Illinois and Texas.

Rumors are that they were all in town for a wedding.

Drama queen, much?

Nothing in the article mentions anything about terrorism. Three guys have foreign-sounding names and you immediately jump to terrorism?

More likely, just three AMERICAN dudes pulling a very typical stupid stunt. Illegal? Yes. Terrorism? Hardly.

I'm guessing from their hometowns and from what little info I could find on Google that they were (a) were raised in America and (b) come from comfortably upper middle class backgrounds. One of the guys writes a blog about entrepreneurship. Another is a recent college grad starting work at a major management consulting firm this fall. La Jolla, Austin, and Elmhurst are all very nice cities.

If it's a joke, I don't get it. The other posters didn't seem to to get it either (even Wheeler was discussing whether they were suspicious or not).

The real joke here is that all over Pittsburgh, people actually WERE jumping to the conclusion that these guys might be terrorists (which they wouldn't have if their names were Adam Smith and Caleb Jones).

Very true. PA's own Director of Homeland Security himself is quoted as saying "Tim McVey is not a terrorist, just very angry with the US government."

For the record, I am a fairly clean cut white guy who was wearing a pair of khakis and a tshirt. I was patted down and had to stand in "the position" against the car for 10 minutes, and asked if I had any bombs or grenades on me when I was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for an expired registration (and nothing else). This was just a couple days ago. My first name is Irish and my last is Polish, so...Pensylvania police FTW!!

Was I supposed to respond? My apologies. I'm not sure what the FCB etiquette dictates. (By the way, sorry for the confusion with the two wheelers.)

I didn't respond b/c I wasn't really sure what you meant by 'the new world'. Were you referring to the fact that people now routinely jump to conclusions based on stereotypes? If so, that's nothing new. Tragic and ignorant, but not new.

Or were you asserting that in the "new world", it's necessary to immediately assume that the guys who hopped the fence at Heinz were terrorists (in the interests of homeland security)?

Interesting story! Sorry you got hassled by the police. If someone like you, who doesn't fit the 'profile', gets searched that closely for a minor infraction, I can't imagine how bad it must be for someone who DOES fit the profile. They must get stopped and scrutinized all the time.

Tell that to my friends in Oklahoma City that lost family. We have been down to the memorial a few times. I would venture to say the entire midwest would disagree w/ anyone from PA.
