I think a lot of people didn't even bother to read the artcle. The OP mislead with his "forced to apologize" comment. The winning school ASKED to forfeit and to apologize.

I'm shocked that such a clear cut story has caused a 12 page thread.

The only thing is question is the lack of sportsmanship.

By all accounts, both teams gave it their all for the entire game and no one is blaming a single player from either team(so the give 100%, 100% of the time crowd really isn't needed). There was an error in judgement by the head coach of the winning team for running the score up to 100 before implementing the strategies that almost all coaches would have implemented much, much earlier in the game. Also, letting an assistant coach cheer on the teams efforts to get to 100 points was another mistake of the head coach.

And, I'd appreciate it if the "this is what's wrong with out country crowd" would lock it up. There are much bigger fish to fry. Our new President just signed an executive order that will allow for our tax dollars to go to the funding of international abortions....just a little perspective.

It seems to be that the winning girls, while they may have felt a little "*buyers remorse" after the game, it was the school that suggested they "apologize".

...and it's all part of the big picture.

The winning school now says it wants to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

“It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened,” the head of the school said Thursday on The Covenant School's(the winning team) Web site. He added that Covenant has made “a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss.”

Good grief...you can't let up on the latest volley on this silly funding rule can you? This isn't solely about "funding abortions", instead it also includes birth control, reproduction health education, HIV information etc. Therefore ANY agency that educates about abortions, administers abortions, etc...isn't given funding at all...for any of the above.

This little charade goes on every time a new President of a rival party comes into office...Reagan started the ban, Clinton reversed it, Bush 2.0 reinstated it, and now Obama reverses it again.

Wow. That's newsworthy!

But hey, war, violence and abortion all sell newspapers. Oh well, it beats talking about anything of value.

Yeah, that's the whole point...did the head of the school play the game? That is her cry baby opinion about what happened.

Here's what my "apology" would sound like....
"It's a shame that our girls have been taught to COMPETE to the best of their abilities, while the losing team says things like,"We DON'T play to win, we play to have fun. It's a shame that the losing team was ever put on the court, knowing that they've been only been taught to have fun... and didn't they have fun while playing the game?"

The point is, the winning team did EVERYTHING right.

Could you please stop mentioning the players? Please!?

This is simply about 1 coach's mistake. No one is condemning a single player for either team.

His employer had gone on record as apologizing for the actions of its school representatives...in this case...it's girl's basketball coaches.

The head girl's basketball coach breaks away from the school's official statement and claims he does not include himself in Covenant's open-ended apology.

As a representative of Covenant, he has the obligation to fulfill the statement and mission of his employer.

He did not. Right, wrong, in between, he did not and the majority of people would lose their job for publically rejecting the official statement of their employer.

:| No, he does not have to agree with the OPINION of his employer. :(

as a matter of fact, isn't that a civil rights violation for firing him because he didn't share the same view? I'm just asking.

He was told to apologize, he refused. Insubordination. Plain and simple.

While I commend the coach for standing his ground, they had every right to dismiss him.

:o Wow! That is messed up.

..and so very wrong.

You may be talking to me by mistake... but don't jump the gun.

I'm saying the winning TEAM did NOTHING wrong while the winning scool admin is VERY WRONG. I understand that the winning girls may feel a little empathy and that's what makes them sportsmanlike. The school adim should be praising them for their play and telling them they have nothing to apologize for. Period.

You understand that your money is going there whether you like it or not right? Your money will go to the building, maintenance and staffing of hospitals to take care of the babies, those infected with HIV, and to assist the mothers during birth whether you like it or not...so why not preventative medicine and education?

Let me guess...you work for an insurance company? That must be it, because I've never found an insurance company that believed in preventative medicine or preventative consulting.

No, you posted in this thread and I asked you a question because you've been addressing the wrong thing the entire time. But you chose not to answer.

For Predator...

Connecticut instituted a mercy rule for football in 2006, but it doesn't end games early. If a school wins by 50 or more points, the coach is suspended for the next game.

Once in place, it didn't take long for the rule to have an effect. Central (Bridgeport) opened its 2006 season with a 56-0 victory over crosstown rival Bassick.

Central athletic director Eric Graf said Central scored its first three touchdowns before its offense took the field. As his Hilltoppers were headed downfield toward what would have been the offending score, Graf said the potential suspension for coach Dave Cadelina became the main topic among the Central fans sitting around him.

"People around me were saying, 'What are they going to do? … Should they fall down?'" Graf said. He said Cadelina already had emptied his bench against an opponent that had not won a game in five years. Graf said a sophomore running back making his first varsity carry broke loose for another touchdown with about four minutes to play. "Here was a kid scoring his first touchdown," Graf said, "and people in the stands were saying, 'What is he doing?'"

Did Central kick the PAT?

Said Graf: "No. They lined up for two, and the quarterback took a knee."

We are talking about abortion here. I don't think anyone really has a problem with any of the other uses of the money, but if you are calling abortion "preventative medicine "......

You're a regurgitating mama bird if you believe that this bill is solely about funding abortions, you should know that just because the media keys a word...you don't have to bite. Nonetheless, you seem to key in on "ABORTION" and run with it.

If people don't have problems with the other uses of the money, maybe you should again read why Clinton and now Obama have reversed this. It has everything to do with how broad the law was written, and less about actual abortions.

Of course...I don't expect you to do that.

Oh well, Jesus loves you...
