What is the deal with this free agency case. Usually there are some fuzzy details on free agents, but most of the time we know the major teams involved and a pretty solid range of an offer. Why are Boris and Tex playing these little games??? From everything I have read Boston had the best known offer on the table... I have seen numerous reports that the angels and O's could not match Boston's offer. The only other name we really hear about are the Nationals, but Tex doesn't wanna play for a loser. There was a rumor or 2 the nats could offer 10 years 200 million, but that still is worse than the 8 years 175-185 Boston offered. The report I have recently read says Boston could not compete with other offers.

Am I missing something here or is this not making sense to others?

How does Boras stay around lol... I know he is the best but if teams refuse to deal with him like "bonds collusion" wouldn't it drive guys to other agents... Absurd thought probably because teams would want certain guys to much

Scott Boras. Enough said.

Everyone knows the Yankees have the cash available, between the contracts that came off the books, a new stadium, and just their overall wealth to make a huge offer to any free agent they wish. If you are Scott Boras, why would you NOT tell everyone that you've received a GARGANTUAN contract offer, especially if you are dealing with the Red Sox? The Red Sox will more than likely assume the offer is from the Yankees, and then up the ante to keep him away from their arch rival and get a pretty good player in the process.

It's the same game he played when Johnny Damon was a free agent, except the Sox didn't cave in, called the bluff, and ended up losing. Until he signs, we won't know if the rumored offer for Tex is valid or not.

Scott Boras is the King of the smoke screen. It could be a bluff to drive up Teixiera's stock and force teams to pay more.

Exactly.

If Boras really had these offers, hed probably be gloating about who wants him, and lets be honest with ourselves, he'll end up in Boston anyway so its just now trying to get more $ for his client--which is what a good agent does, albeit, some odd methods

Maybe they are stalling to see if the Yankees will come in with a bigger offer?

I honestly think players choose Boras because he is so nice and down to earth.

If I recall correctly, Damon wasn't a bluff. He got more from the Yankees than the Sox were willing to pay.

The bluff they didn't call was Varitek four years ago when Boras brought in the ol' "mystery team" bid, when really the Sox were bidding against themselves.

Players go with Boras because he gets them paid. Period. Most of them don't care who pays them, just that the checks come. While he infuriates fans, and may be difficult for owners to deal with, he gets the money for his clients, and that's his job description.

I used to blame Boras for this kind of stuff, but really, he's smart for doing it. If you are his client, you have to appreciate him getting you top dollar. I now more blame the owners who cave in and write the checks. If they would stop with the huge offers, then eventually the prices go down. The Yankees, Sox, Cubs, Angels, and Dodgers only have so many roster spots and can't pay everyone $10M.

PS...I am secretly hoping that the Braves have come in with a Tex offer. Based on how our offseason has gone, we've certainly got cash to spend and not too many assets left to spend it on.

According to Feeding The Monster, Boras told the Sox that the Yankees offer was tremendously higher than it was, and they walked away. They felt horrible after that it was only a few million apart, but it was Boras lying to them that had Damon go to Yankees.
