So we now consider a little less than 200 at bats a season? I'll admit he is doing well so far, but there has been some serious overreaction.
This was a pretty good 19 year old season, lets see if his stats are similar at the end of the year.

You don't think that was a slightly different era? Maybe a little too different to compare? Tony C did have a really great season, don't get me wrong, I just don't think he could replicate that in today's era.

Looking at Harper's 164 game projection, he's going to really have to kick it up a notch in a few departments to catch Tony C. Looking at his 111 game projection though, he'll end up with more runs (74 vs 69), hits (123 vs 117), 2B (25 vs 21), 3B (10 vs 2), SB (10 vs 2), CS (7 vs 4), BB (52 vs 35), SO (91 vs 78).

Well look at that. Taking into account what I said earlier about today's era being harder for a 19 year old hitter to thrive in, I would say that Bryce is clearly at a pace to finish heads and shoulders above Tony C. He has only not played in 20 games this season, and he wasn't in the bigs to start, so I think he is going to finish with more G, PA and ABs. Considering that his pace for 111 games is better than Tony C's 111 games, unless Bryce seriously falls off his current level of production, I think he's going to beat Tony C. easily.

Thank you for posting the graph. Somebody should please bump this thread at the end of the season. (I know some people don't like that, and think somebody is trying to rub something in somebody's face, but I WANT to see it. I would rather eat crow or whatever and know the truth than forget to check the outcome....)

I'm just kiddin'. I haven't been following Harper too closely, and was very surprised to see that his 111 game projection was so great. Especially because I just got done looking at his actual stats and his 164 game projection, and it didn't seem to me like he had a chance. A weird numbers thing I guess, where x/45*111 worked out differently than I expected. I doubt he will be able to keep up his current rate of production (for various reasons) but I still think he'll end up with bigger stats than Tony C had, and the consensus seems to be that Tony C set the bar for 19 year olds in the MLB. Unless I'm missing something, like Tony C was so impressive because he had a .290 BA and there's no way Harper will keep up the .289 BA... ? Or maybe I'm seriously missing something serious that I'm not taking into account.

Bryce Harper's famous phrase, "That's a clown question, bro," soon will be available on T-shirts, according to a report.

The Washington Nationals' young phenom told Comcast SportsNet on Thursday that Under Armour will begin selling T-shirts with his now often repeated catchphrase.

Harper quipped his popular words last week to a Toronto TV reporter who asked if the 19-year-old had planned to take advantage of Canada's lower drinking age after belting a long home run in a win over the Blue Jays.

Harper is a Mormon, a religion that forbids alcohol.

For a brief time, the highest trending topic on Twitter was Harper's response: "That's a clown question, bro." The outfielder's name also was among the site's most popular subjects.

Twitter users have been reformulating the phrase to fit different contexts, too.

Anyone who knows anything about statistics realize small samples yield less reliability. The kid is playing well and that's all that can be said to date, I'm actually a bit suprised as I read it took him a bit to adjust each of his last two promotions. He is without a doubt performing better than the average rookie and doing so at Age 19.
