Saw a brand new listing Sunday on eBay for a McGwire '98 Tek pre-production pattern 86 card (and a Clemens pre-production that was an extra for me). Been looking for that p. 86 card for many, many years. (I still need pattern 89 if anyone has one lying around!) Scooped up the BIN, and also picked up two lots the same fellow had for 4 Ripken and 2 McGwire '98 Teks well below BV with combined shipping for the 3 lots. About $30.00 for the bunch. Got 'em yesterday. Very pleased with the McGwire pre-production card (that I would have paid the $30.00 for alone), and also what turned out to be a McGwire p. 45 diffractor! A new one for me. Went back and looked at the listing, and sure enough when I magnified the very small scan it was clearly a diffractor. Had to rearrange the horseshoe I was sitting on!

You need to get some scans going of that diffractor set. I'd wager you're one of the closest collectors to a full 90 card diffractor set of a player (besides Mark Grace collector). I'd love to see a full 90 pattern diffractor set completed of any player!

Think Jeff Mazur with his Bonds' diffractors, and Stu Thomas with his Justice diffractors have the largest number of diffractors of any one player. I've helped both of them with ones they needed. Think both of them have near or over 70 diffractors of their player.

Most diffractors I have of any one player is 56 of Manny Ramirez, and 52 of Roger Clemens. Have over 40 diffractors of another 20 to 25 players. Last total for my collection is 3061 different diffractor patterns--about 38% of the set. A truly impossible set, but fun nonetheless. Need to get a new camera battery and set up my tripod again to do proper scanning. One of these days....

Sure thing. Glad to help out. There must be a lot of Edgar and Thome colectors out there. Out of the approx. 500 Tek cards on ebay and 1200 Tek cards on Sportlots there are no cards of either player right now. We might be on here a few years trying to finish off the sets.

Finally got some time and cracked five boxes of '98 Teks I picked up three weeks ago. No hot boxes, and certainly not worth what I paid for the boxes, but just felt like doing it! Good quality of diffractors, fair number of stars and a couple of super-stars, but only exactly three per box. For those interested, these are the diffractors I got, in the order I found them:
