The 1998 Topps Tek Thread

Finally landed my 1st Lofton Diffractor. I have only seen a handful for sale in the last 4-5 years, wish I would have bought into these 10-15 years ago.

Thanks, yeah I’m basing my theory only on this Diffractor because it’s the only one I’ve got that went from pack to soft sleeve and then to me. It’s by far the worst condition 1998 Tek I’ve ever encountered with pretty major surface and structural issues. I’ve seen some other pretty shabby Diffractors but I haven’t been collecting nearly long enough to form a reliable opinion. I’m much more inclined to go with your theory and call this one an outlier.

Hmm this makes me want to go back through mine. I never really cared much about quality so haven't looked.

So a TEK coillector on a different board sent me a Same Card# pattern # Ripken card # 51 pattern # 51 so down to
13p13 McGwire 21p21 Clemens, and 63p63 Konerko to complete a 90 card same Card #/Pattern # set

Will buy or trade for as well as these below. Anybody?

My 1998 TEK Condition Upgrade Want List
For some reason Pattern #36 for me seemed to have alot of blemishes. My completed 8100 card 98 TE master set is mint to near mint with none of the cards except these on condition upgrade want list below having any blemishes such as scratches, water marks, tiny black dots, peeling of the silver oval on back of card containing the card/pattern, and misalignment of the card/pattern within that silver oval

at that price you would need 40 people at $11 per person. I do not think that would happen.

Yeah and I am down to 5 cards left made 2 big purchases that knocked 18 off my list and 3 Diffractors I believe I know need 1, 4, 9, 17, and 85 but will have to double check. I am wondering how long till I find those 5.

Three Ripken diffractors sold this week before I could get to them. Lol

Yup, it was me. I needed all three. That will bring me to 40 Ripken diffractors. These were all available at BIN for 24 hrs plus. I made offers for all three that were accepted the next day. 2 of the 3 were from a collector in Japan, a nice fellow who I've dealt with before for diffractors.
