My main time for opening packs or boxes was in the early 90s when they were more economical and there really weren't any big hits to find. What was the big pull in 1993 Leaf or 1994 Upper Deck (edit: oh yeah, the Mantle/Griffey autos. Never got any of those)? Probably my best pull was either a 1993 BBM Hideo Nomo from 1998 Bowman (1:3250 packs or so), a 500 Goal Club stick card of Mike Gartner(?) (I can't even remember who, but I sold it for $100), or a President's Edition #/10 of Russell Branyan from 1998 SP Top Prospects. As boxes got more expensive, and the powerball cards more valuable, I had less and less luck. No mortgage-payment type cards, just cheap cards, according to the odds. Strangely, I would have decent luck buying a random pack here and there, pulling a $20 card from 1 or 2 $4 packs, but that's it. This continues with Magic, which is my foil-wrapped crack of choice for the past few years.
Oh, but how could I forget this extremely profitable trip to the card shop:

I really should have sold that laPorta.
