Yet the players get just as excited over them as adults. Evan Danieli had an AFLAC in 06 and still three years later was all proud of it, and showing it off to team mates when I had him sign a few this year. I believe the exact quote was "What you know about having a card when you were 16?"

Well, at least he has baseball for him if that is how he carries a conversation...

Who is morally more in question -- those who buy these cards, or the companies that produce them?

Re: The Duck Is Running Amuck!

alright alright sheez.

Jeff, you don't like Adam and think he's a total moron.

Adam, you feel the same way about Jeff.

We get both sides of the argument, its over, if you want to debate about children on cards, the other person's intelligence or lack thereof or anything else you can think of, do it via pm, email, phone, instant messenger but not posting.

back to your normally scheduled program.

Until recently, those who buy the cards, since they are not intended for profit and packed out. However, with Topps' 2008 BDP decision to include the Aflac cards, I would have to say the weight falls on both parties shoulders.

How are you a mod?

I am a mod and this isn't what I should be posting.

Jeff get's under my skin and I looked like a fool for continuing.

Thread will be cleaned up, so the topic can continue on it's normal course.

Sorry.

Just to clarify, I wasn't referring to those who scour the stands, looking to buy everyone's cards.

I was in fact referring to those who object to 16-18 year olds' likenesses appearing on cards that are sold on the secondary market.

What about A&G with the spelling bee champ's auto? Is that wrong?

The only demand for the child on that card is because she's part of the set. 99.9999999% of the sales of that card went to set collectors, not because they were investing in the future of the little girl. The other fraction went to the girl's family. It'll go in a box and likely never bee :) seen again.

The difference between the A&G bee card is that:

It was inserted into packs so all buyers had an equal shot at the card

No one’s standing outside of the spelling bee kid’s house and hounding her to sign things or hounding her relatives for her card- or in the case of the AFLAC players, swarming them and hounding them for their armbands, hats, shirts, etc. (pretty much everything but their jock straps). I think some of those who think they’re “skillfully” acquiring cards FORGET that these are KIDS and hounding them and attendees of the game is sleazy

The card, as far as I know, was not “backdoored”- this is NOT true w/the AFLACs and there are 1-3 people who have “inside” connections and get a disproportionate # of cards…and it’s NOT just b/c they stand outside the stadium like creepy little stalkers or b/c they hound the players’ siblings to get them cards. @ the ’07 game, card distribution was cut off barely after the game started. Supposedly the boxes of remaining cards (quite a large #) were going to be “donated,” but what do you know, a large # of cards found their way into certain peoples’ hands. That the same 2-3 sellers “skillfully” have 100s of AFLACs every year is NOT a coincidence.
