I just made a post about it on the transactions forum. It's time to let it go. Ideally I would like to not break it up, and sell it to one hardcore collector, or someone who would do the arduous break-up task. This scenerio is not realistic, so I am left with breaking it up myself. I have written out a list of steps, and the process will begin tomorrow. The real problem with player collecting in a whole is time. I have been collecting Oswalt since 2003, and it really exploded in 2005. Since then I have overpaid for many items. One of a kind items are tricky. You can go for it in auction, hope for it to go lower, and possibly get a good deal. Or you can go outside of Ebay and end it early. There were many times when I would overpay for those must-have cards. At the time I thought my entire collection would be with me until I was old and grey, so the price wasn't too much of a concern. Those ideals I now realize are unrealistic. I haven't sold a single non-duplicate item since I bought my first card in 2003. I guess it's been a good run. I was serious about the collection. Things have changed.

To the many people PMing me: Please note I am taking all requests to heart, so I will not list any cards that you might want. Deals might not get done this week however. I need to prepare a little bit more.

Is there any way you can just hide your collection in a closet until you realize how insane you sound right now? :D You'll want to resume collecting at some point. Burnout happens to the best of us.

If there isn't any other way...I wish you the best of luck in recouping the money you've poured into your collection.

Watched the video and that's an awesome song!
Do you still like collecting? If so, do what Shu suggested and put it away for a few months
If you need to sell it, What are you looking to get out of the collection?
Because you could sell it all in one auction, just list every card and as many scans of the cards as you can and start the Buy it Now at book value and put submit best offer
and put that youtube video in the auction... The song might hit the right collector/dealer and someone may buy it

Good luck in whatever you decide,
I'm going back to listen to that song again

I have been collecting since 1996, so I know about phases and burnouts. It's time to move on. I doubt I will be resuming collecting. It's all of the collection or none at all. The only sadness I feel is knowing I will not recoup all of my money, and even that doesn't bother me that much. There are FAR worse things I could have spent money on. And when it comes right down to it, it's just money, cardboard, and ink. My priorities are more focused on my future, family, and a relationship/future family. I certainly don't hate collecting, but sometimes you have to analyze the situation at hand. The only change I can see benefiting me is dramatic change.

This about a girl?

I mean, if selling isn't about the money then what's making you sell so immediately?

You can just stop buying, or take your time and do BIN/BO's. You did take a lot of time to do the website stuff and rigorous buying, is there no way you can enjoy it?

Not about a girl. I am however planning to move out of NY state this year. I want some security money, or maybe some money to give to my family. My mind state has drifted hugely in just the last year. I put effort into the collection/site because, sadly, it was a priority for me. I was a recluse for years, and I did have social anxiety disorder. I am so commited to my current mindset that I am willing to purge everything from my old life. 2010 is basically a rebirth for me. I am willing to sell this collection at a loss because I have faith in myself. It's an exciting new feeling. I am not pulling a Terry boat trip here. This is a well thought out plan with hours of analyzing myself. In the end it will be about a girl, but I don't have one yet...so.

Having 2 PC players that I collect I always fight with selling them at the right time (when they are hot) and then wishing I did when they don't sell very well. Case in point would be my Mark Reynolds collection. At the beginning of last season when he hit like 9 HRs in the first few weeks cards I paid $20 for were selling for $200 and I only sold the 3 or 4 that I had dupes of at that time. Also, my Brandon Webb collection has probably died in value because of his injury last year. I have no wishes to sell them, but I always worry that if I need to sell for some reason I would end up getting pennies on the dollar for my collection. I guess that is why I have never considered selling my entire PC. I haven't ever sold a single Reynolds card that I didn't have a dup of but I know I have sold a few of my Webbs to try and upgrade to better cards...

That is one of the biggest reasons why I considered keeping it. I have added very few cards to my collection in the last 6 months. See my post above for further explanation.

If you've thought it out and really think this is the best...then go for it! Just don't be posting in 6 months with regret

I appreciate it. I have done so much since 2008 to move forward. I got a stable job, lost 70 pounds, I am getting out A LOT more often, I am conversing with people and creating friendships and attempting to date, I moved out of the house and got an apartment, I bought a car (lease), I renewed and strengthened my relationship with my family, and now I am moving away.

Another Astros collection bites the dust :(

If you have any autos that I need, hit me up with a list and what you'd need for em.

Congrats! Sounds like things are getting better! I went through a similar experience last year. Change is good.

I have been collecting since 1973 and have sold my entire collection and repurchased it many many times in my life. Each time I repurchase I come back to the same group of sets I have always wanted to collect and re-focus my hobby attention. If you do find yourself back to the hobby just make sure you re-focus and enjoy what you are doing and not be obsessed with getting every card etc....this will burn you out fast.

If you feel you must sell, then by all means sell. Allow yourself to keep an item or 2 that you think will mean something to you and not be swayed by the value of the item. Pick something that has sentimental value even if its worth only a few bucks and put it somewhere so you can be reminded of the good times you had. You will eventually come back to wanting to collect and allow yourself to have that possibility. Its something you have enjoyed in the past but now other things in life are calling to you. Go out...enjoy life..use the money you make on cards to live your dreams (if you can get enough from your sale) and see what life has in store for you. Make new firends and have new experiences. This hobby will be there waiting to welcome you back when you are ready. Enjoy yourself and we will all see you down the road someday!!
