I agree to a point, but greatest of all time as labeled by who? That's the beauty of baseball, and sports in general. The 'greatest of all time' label is very subjective and open to one's personal interpretation. I personally don't believe Ruth was the same caliber of ballplayer that a Clemente or Aaron was. Yes, they played in different eras, but had black ballplayers been a part of the all-white baseball world, I don't think Ruth's numbers would have been as gaudy. Just my opinion.
You could argue that, but you could also argue that Aaron played a good portion of his career after expansion as well. He also had almost 4000 more at bats than Ruth di.

I'm actually sorta stunned that Ruth is getting the consideration that he is. As an overall player, I don't put him in the same conversation as Clemente & Aaron.
He was better than both by a long shot, and that is no knock on either.

Sort of surprised that the guy in my sig has only gotten one vote. I put him at 3rd I think...maybe tied with Clemente.

On a side note, I think once the best closer/reliever is going to be chosen it will be an interesting vote.

I am pretty glad to see Aaron getting the votes he is getting, I personally think he is the best all around ball player ever to play the game. Hits, HR's, RBI, TB, Average, SB's, his glove and longevity, all combined are second to none. On a side note, I think it would be cool for the final list to also include the 2'nd place runners up to the voting.

I'll post the second team lineup in the final thread. I am also going to have a final vote for all 10 players (with the highest percentage SP) for best overall player on the team.

There is one baseball god and George Herman Ruth is his name. Hank Aaron gets the nod against anyone, and I mean anyone, else... but not against "The Babe."

Are you talking about Mays or Aaron?

For pitching - you should have a 4 man rotation - sp 1 - sp 4 - best pitcher of all time to 4th best.... Maybe have one contest where everyone can pick 4 and let it go to 200 votes and top 4 vote getters will sp 1-4
