Lets assemble the greatest team ever by voting on who the best overall is at each position. Up currently, 3rd base. I'll do the next after we get 50+ votes, then the next and so on.

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP-TWO

C - JOHNNY BENCH
1B - LOU GEHRIG
2B - ROGERS HORNSBY
SS - HONUS WAGNER
3B - MIKE SCHMIDT
LF -
CF -
RF -
SP -
SP -
SP -
SP -
RP -

Alex Rodriguez will have played more games as a 3rd baseman when all is said and done, so I took the liberty of not using him on the SS list and will be putting him on the 3rd basemen list... if anyone is wondering.

I went with Brett. He has the best overall stats. HR's are not everything. Schmidt AVG was not very good.

Schmidt, Brett and Brooks are in a class of their own. As far as Brett v Schmidt, that was settled in 1980.

Really, really close. I have to say Schmidt first, Brett second.

This one is the toughest so far.

I could legitimately make an argument for atleast 5 to take the top spot. Having said that, only 1 could I not see anywhere but #1. Schmidt is that baller.

This is a tough one. Defensively I would want no one other than Brooks Robinson.

Offensively? I would take Chipper Jones over Schmidt & Mathews, but you can't go wrong with Brett.

Chipper: .304/.402/.533
Schmidt: .267/.380/.527
Mathews: .271/.376/.509
Brett: .305/.369/.487
Boggs: .328/.415/.443

With RISP? Brett or Chipper (or Boggs if I didn't need an XBH)

I am trying to think if I had this all time team, who would have the best chance of getting on base and whatnot...with that said I'd have to go with Chipper with his high OBP/BA with some real nice pop. I would imagine I would win more games with Chipper's bat than I would win with Robinson's glove.

and Eddie Mathews makes my top 5 underrated players of all time, most don't even know how to spell his name right!

Schmidt and Rodriguez. Can't argue with Rodriguez's home run total. And I picked Schmidt over Brett.

I get the feeling this will be the closest vote yet.

Left field will be interesting: Barry Bonds, Ted Williams, and Rickey Henderson. Not to mention HOFers Carl Yastrzemski, Lou Brock, and Willie Stargell (Pops played 1229 of his 2144 games in LF, essentially the first half of his career before moving to first base).

Not even close in my book.

Greatest hitter of all time vs. Captain giant head.
