Long Islanders voters rejected a $400 million plan that would secure the funding to build the NY Islanders arena and a baseball field. according to Nassau County Board of Elections officials the referendum failed 56 percent to 43 percent. the Islanders current lease at the Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015. despite the Islanders long running campaign to drum up support for the new arena plan voter turnout was very low.

Islanders owner Charles **** was quoted as saying “I’m disappointed, I’m heartbroken”. he did promise to keep the Islanders on Long Island until the current lease expires but did not state what his next plan will be.

No word on the Preds and Shea Weber yet! ::facepalm::

They have to get him locked up! Sure hope the arbitration hearing today does not do damage that can't be fixed.

They'll get Weber locked up. They have to. That team is built on goalie and defense. If only they could develop any semblance of the same at the forward position.

Ultimate is the best looking product of the year so far. I might get crazy and open a few more packs at the national. I'm sure I won't be able to find any deals on Hawks singles.

Ultimate is definitely a big hit once again for Upper Deck this year.

Weber is awarded $7.5 million for next season! Wow! Not great news for a small market team.

Guess we better be prepared to pay up for him long term as well as Suter and Rinne!

They are worth paying but I wonder if Rinne will be the odd man out in the long run. Time will tell.

that's a lot of dough but Shea is definitely worth it. hopefully they can sign a long term deal with him.

Maybe someone from here knows, I've been searching sites all night.

What I'm looking for is data re 2010/11 The Cup. Somewhere someone had posted that UD had 2 types of cases this year, one for Internet Dealers & one for the Diamond dealers. Each case type was to have serial numbers starting with a Unique set of numbers identifying it as one or the other.

I've also read (somewhere) that the Internet cases were 3 box cases only & that the master 6 box case would be Diamond dealers only.

I also read (again somewhere) that there would be 6 numbered to 99 rookies this year.

There's been other Cup news & rumors the past couple of months but those were the 3 items I'd like to find out if they are rumor or fact. The Cup is supposed to be more limited this year & if the cases have been split into 2 types is one going to be a lesser as far as content? I went ahead & nailed down a 6 box Master case today. I had to promise the dealer I wouldn't resale the boxes something to do with UD's new seller rules. Release date right now is Friday 8/19. Hope to do a live bust.

If you know anything about the above issues or have a link with the info post it here or send me a PM.

I'm sad to be typing that yet another NHL'er was found dead today.

Wade Belak who recently announced his retirement from the Nashville Predators was found dead in his condo in Toronto today. cause of death is not known yet but police have said that foul play was not suspected.

Just been a terrible off-season for the NHL.

Bummer.

All 3 who have died all had one thing in common. They were fighters/enforcers. I hope this didn't have anything to do with the cause of death. With all the stuff you hear about concussions and head injuries anymore, it seems like this is happening more and more. Kinda scary if you think about it.

That was the first thing I thought of too. Have any of these guys ever sat out due to a concussion before? I'd be willing to bet that the ones who actually have to sit out some games are better off than all the people who don't report symptoms and continually play. Just the consistent impact over the years has to be worse than one or two big hits.

Too soon, and there isn't enough information out there to speculate. All three of them spent a significant part of their careers in Saskatchewan as well. If you look, there are lots of coincidences out there. For what its worth, in an interview last week, Belak said he had never had a concussion.

Its just a damn shame. So sad to see these young men gone when they should be on top of the world. Belak was a bit of a wreck at times on the ice, but catching him in an interview or anything like that was entertaining as hell. There is a picture out there of him blowing a kiss to one of his daughters during a warm-up.
