Long Islanders voters rejected a $400 million plan that would secure the funding to build the NY Islanders arena and a baseball field. according to Nassau County Board of Elections officials the referendum failed 56 percent to 43 percent. the Islanders current lease at the Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015. despite the Islanders long running campaign to drum up support for the new arena plan voter turnout was very low.
Islanders owner Charles **** was quoted as saying “I’m disappointed, I’m heartbroken”. he did promise to keep the Islanders on Long Island until the current lease expires but did not state what his next plan will be.
