i lost my top seller ribbon because of 3 1-2 stars for shipping and handling. yet i still have 100% feedback! i have been in contact with ebay and they are certainly no help whatsoever... so ebay will not relook at my case nor will they return me to top seller until i fall back into their "guidelines" no matter what the issue. for the record my shipping is 2.75 + .25 per additional item! now do i lose my 20% fee discount? because it is still showing in my dashboard! or is that going to go away?

here are my star levels...

4.93 item as describe
4.92 communication
4.90 shipping time
4.76 shipping and handling charges

http://myworld.ebay.com/venomous4545

i have never in my life been so ******* pissed off about something that i have no power over!

Your shipping charges are fine. I charge $3.00 for auction items but for Buy it nows I charge free shipping. To get this back up try offering soem free shipping for items you know will sell well.

I have received one or two stars before on auctions when I offered free shipping. Until they require an IQ test to buy/sell on eBay, it is going to be a battleground for nitwits.

My guess is you will lose the 20% discount on Fees AFTER this month. I think then you will still get 5%, not that it makes you feel any better.

Same here. Not that I'm a power seller by any means, but the only time I ever charge more than $2 for shipping is for u-pick lots for 50+ cards, and even then it's only $2.50. I ALWAYS ship by next business day. ALWAYS use padded envelopes, top loaders, etc, yet still get dinged occasionally on shipping. Oh well.

I usually charge a buck to ship and nothing extra for multiples items and eat the rest when selling cheaper stuff. You are either going to pad the shipping fee or you are going to get the max eBay discount but a seller will have a tough time getting both. I choose the latter for a plethora of reasons but mainly to make my cards cheap enough to sell. If I got cute calculating my actual shipping expenses for one card the breakdown would be something like this:

Postage 0.88
Bubble mailer 0.25
Top loader 0.05
Sleeve 0.01 or less
Team bag 0.02
Various printing costs 0.02 or less
Tape for the label 0.01 or less
Gas to USPS ~ 0.05

Total $1.29 (perhaps I'll bump my shipping rate to this)
If I opted to use Paypal shipping my postage would increase by something like 44 cents (package rate plus DC) and printing expenses may increase by a couple pennies for a total of $1.75. Buyers are smart enough to understand all this.

With this knowledge in mind, I hate paying $2.75, $3.50, or even $4.00 to get a card shipped to me. If the price is right I'll pay it and won't complain nor will I ding the seller DSR (with PWE exception) but cannot empathize with the seller who charges this much and does not qualify for the discount.

Item as described 4.95
Communication 4.94
Shipping time 4.93
Shipping and handling charges 4.91

My numbers above. Even at a buck you cannot get 5 stars from everybody. Perhaps eBay should lower the threshold by a tenth of a star.

+1

It cracked me up. Graded card into a bubble mailer, then into the small priority flat rate box with bubble wrapping tucked in to fill the holes. Packaged up and taped around the edges, mailed out next day with DC and insurance. All at no cost to them and I got a 3 with 4's on everything else. This was the guy who took me off all 5's. I think I would have had to beamed myself to his house with a free six pack and a pizza as well as soon as he paid to get all 5's.

here in lies my major problem. some people just want to be dicks. 95% of my cards are auction style .25 starting bid with 2.75 + .25 additional in order to try and hook the buyer into purchasing more than one card to decrease the cost average of their shipping. something else i try to do is list cards that either have a common theme... i.e. set, team, player, to make it easier! not one of the 1 or 2 dsr people have left me a message complaining about shipping cost... nor did they hit my feedback. so to me that is a job completed to the buyers satisfaction. even if these buyers felt that price was high my shipping speed, materials used, and time should qualify me for a 3 (imo).

this of course leaving out the fact that shipping cost is stated in all of my auctions. so if you dont like the price yet win and pay for the auction you have already stated that cost of shipping is acceptable enough to complete the transaction...

when ebay sent me the customer response survey i just clicked dissatisfied for everything then told them i didnt read what i was doing just dinged them for not giving me my way... hopefully it effects their bonuses like it effected my dsr and fees.

Here is a thought. Why don't you list 10-15 common cards as 1 day auctions for $.50 with free shipping. Different people on FCB bids and win the auction and 3-5 days later leave you 5 star feedback to get your #s back where they were.

I would be happy to donate $.50 inorder to help you out and I am sure others would be willing to also.

As I said just a thought and if it is a bad idea, I am sorry

i appreciate that and it would work but i while i feel bad about losing my top seller i would also feel bad about securing it under a false pretense. to me the dsr system is arbitrary and sellers are already judged via feedback!

eBay says "Thanks for playing... YOU CAN'T WIN"

I typically charge $2.50 plus .25 cents per added item. If the shipping seems disproportionate I throw in free insurance and sometimes a few singles that match what they bought and I still can't reach any type of preferred seller status.
