Morneau's on a 6 year $80 million deal that expires after 2013.
Take the 6 years @ 90 million and be traded to the Yankees after only 2 seasons of said contract.ThoseBackPages said:Take the 6 years @$90mil, then sign with the Yankees after that

There's a certain respect and admiration for these types of players.
Ripken, Brett, Yount, Biggio, Mattingly... all great players and great people who were loyal to one team.
No negatives to signing with the Yankees? Hmmm...homer.Skillz said:Yankees in a hot second. Nicer amenities, more money, starting catching job, world series/playoff talent year after year, tremendous fan base, living in NYC, ability to become greatest Yankees catcher of all time... the list is endless

My guess on Mauer's next contract is $20M per or higher, say 6 years for $120 million, and definitely think that $25M per (5 and $125 million) is not out of the question. The Twins wouldn't pay for Santana because he's a pitcher and wouldn't go to a 5th year on Torii because of his age. Neither of these will be in play for Mauer.

Let's not go too overboard here, it isn't as though the Twins are the Royals (or the Orioles).rymflaherty said:I'd most likely leave.....though I'm also not one of those people that would be overly sentimental about having to leave my home for a few years.
I think the problem is that not only do those teams offer more money, but they also (most likely) offer you the best chance to win. So you really can't even say "it's about the money". Now if it's that offer's from the Orioles or something, then then sure i'd stay in Minn., open the new stadium, be a hometown hero, etc. etc. The Twins do a great job, but it's tough to compete with those teams.

Anyone else feel like Torii has gotten better since leaving Minnesota?
Since 1980, 8 teams have won the World Series more than once...one of those teams plays in Minnesota.AndruwHRJones said:My guess is he signs with the Twins, but I doubt he stays there for the duration of the contract. Sooner or later he will want to win a World Series ring, I just don't see it happening in Minnesota with them spending so much salary on him alone. I hope I am wrong, I would like to see him retire a Twin and win a World Series.
