I was in attendance for the Syndergaard debut. For the innings I kept track, he was 95-98, and showed an 84 changeup, 78 curve and an 88-9 slider. His last pitch was a 96 fastball in the 6th, his 88th pitch.

His fastball is explosive, but very VERY flat and straight. A lot of the Erie hitters (and there really aren't many guys on that team knocking the cover off of the ball) made solid contact, barrelling up the ball, even on his fastest pitches. You wouldn't perhaps believe that AA guys hitting around .230 could pull a 97 MPH fastball, but they took those pitches every direction. Also, when he missed, he missed up (which is generally dangerous)

That said, once he started throwing his secondary offerings, he really got it together. I was very impressed that he started multiple batters with change-up/breaking ball combos, and the second time through the lineup, some didn't see a fastball until the 3rd or 4th pitch. This shows good maturity and awareness as to how to pitch for a young guy. His mechanics looked flawless, a little Greinke-ish, but very relaxed, like a righty David Price. He uses his size very well to get that downward plane. His control at times was amazing. He froze one guy, a righty, on a 98 mph FB on the outside paint. that was great.

The hits he gave up, he gave up because he wasn't locating offspeed and got in fastball counts. His FB didn't miss that many bats. His secondary pitches really finished guys off.

I'd say he'd be a 3-4 started anyway, but especially in a Harvey/Wheeler rotation. He is very durable and reliable looking, good head on his shoulders and really did work through a rough inning. If I were a Mets fan, I'd be excited for him.

Matt Purke awesome today

5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 Ks

Struck out the first 2 batters in each of the first 4 innings.

I've got a question for you. What do you think the chances are Rendon stays up for the rest of the year? I have a feeling he's going to hit the AB cutoff for a rookie soon. This could drastically change my plans for selling his stuff.
