“MUCHO POP”: Devers, rated as the No. 16 overall prospect in the minors by MLB.com, actually took care of his maiden hit with a double in Salem’s 5-0, 11-inning loss in the first game of the doubleheader.

But it wasn’t until the second inning of Game 2 that he showed off his power.

“It was a bomb,” Sox pitcher Jalen Beeks said. “I thought it was going to hit his face on the scoreboard. He got all of it.

“He’s looking good. Mucho pop.”

Signed out of the Dominican Republic for $1.5 million in 2013, Devers hit 11 homers for Greenville last season. Seeing Salem Memorial Ballpark’s notoriously spacious dimensions did not discourage the stocky third baseman.

“If I hit the ball hard, and in the air, it’s going to travel,” Devers said. “I don’t feel intimidated at all.”
