We're heading to the reusable hardware store, see if we can't find a door with a glass insert for our en-suite and a new screen door for the front.
I frosted the windows in the en-suite yesterday, so this would be nice to let light in the bedroom all day (our bedroom faces south)

Nice Walker, Jeff! I need to get a Larry AU and GU for the Canadian collection.

Paul - My daughter has the aptitude for art as well, so I know the pride you are feeling right now, and it is awesome. I have learned as she is growing up that the less i turn her in that direction (as she is TRULY talented) the more she keeps pushing herself to get better and more creative. I will take a couple pics and post them later of her work.

cool I bet my daughter would like to see them so if you post I'll show her.. my daughter has a knack for Anime (which I can't stand personally) but she is also doing portraits now and charcoals. She has an after school art class twice a week which has expanded what she draws. She is also into fashion design.. drawing anime people with funky fashion. I have no art skill and neither does her mother.. so its a talent only she has in our family. She has a cousin that was a gifted artist.. but is a dummy and threw it all away getting in trouble with the law instead of going to college to further it.

the neck isn't too bad at the moment.. it seems to get more achy as the day goes on forcing me to give in and take a dose of pain killers usually later in the afternoon. It'll be put to the test today standing up for extended time at the art expo. my daughter has some real art skills.. I wish the rest of her school work she took so seriously. She has her mind that her art will be what she does growing up but she doesn't have a direct focus on what to use it for. Its a double edged sword... I want to support her but I want her to get all the real education down that way she doesn't end up "a struggling artist" like most do and end up working minimum wage jobs her whole life. She's 14 though and you can't tell them anything at that age! letting her learn a hard lesson would be an irresponsible choice by me as a parent.
Definitely good advice as a parent, coming from an art person. In general, art people in most professions "depend" on business of others to stay in business or be employed (marketing, graphic design, illustrators, etc). So in times when the economy takes a dump, the first thing to get cut from budgets is usually marketing and any contractural stuff, like advertising, graphic design. This is usually stuff that managers who have no clue say to themselves, "Hmmm, we can write our own manuals or layout our own brochures in-house or do our own advertising, we don't need to pay an outside firm to do that for us. That will save the company money." This usually ends up in a disaster, but my point is, a well-rounded educated art person in general business is more prepared to handle the tough times. It's great that she has such a drive to do something at such a young age, but you encouraging her to keep up her grades in math and science and language is huge. Sorry, not trying to preach  ::facepalm::

well put Dave and the exact point I try to make with her all the time. Its one thing to choose art as a career.its another thing to have something educational to fall back on in case your dream turns into a nightmare. Art is one of the first things school systems budget cut in these times. One thing positive about her grades is she is trying to get accepted into the Vocational/Technical High School here in the city and they require a certain grade level for acceptance. she has had to keep her grades up just to have a chance to go there.. a hidden incentive plan as the alternative high school doesn't have art related classes anything like the Voc/Tech.

Sid's rookie season was 2005-06. he played in the QMJHL for Rimouski Oceanic for 2 seasons 2003-04 and 2004-05 and then he was drafted number 1 overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft at the age of 17. he has never spent anytime in the minors.

here is a card I have of him pictured in his Rimouski Oceanic jersey. those jerseys are one of my favorite all-time hockey jerseys...
