Pete, sorry to hear of the pending closure.. Well, it gives you time to look for other adventures..

Way back when my wife company was getting ready to lay off, I told her to check to see if they can have volunteer layoffs..
When she inquired, they had never heard of anyone asking for one. They gave her the layoff and since her company has more than 500 employees (Key Bank), there was federal funding to pay for her going back to school and getting into a field she wanted to get into..

I don't know how big your company is, but like I tell alot of people.. http://www.boeing.com/careers/
It's a world wide company with facilities all over the world, (over 150,000 employees)
