Morning all.

What does everyone have planned today?

...hey Andrew!! Just trying to make it through another year

Actually I'm working as my mother-in-law is up for a visit. Need to stay out-of-their-way, if you know what I mean.

Any New Years plans for you?

Does anyone still want to bust a 2003 Flair Baseball case? Atlanta still has one left. If we could get a min of 10 people to do this quickly (so we can order it.) it would be less that $50 a slot (3 teams per).

If you wan/can do it lets try to get this rolling.

Josh, if it comes down to filling one slot, count me in.

Here is who showed interest when we where trying to do this earlier.
I know Dan's slot was a gifted to him but I'm not 100% sure if the gift giver is still wanting/able to do so since this was so long ago.

Like you, my resolution is to merely survive another 365 (unless it's a leap year?).

Cool pics of the tailgate/game! One thing is confusing to me. The teenager in the pics with you is smiling!

Not sure if I have ever seen a teen actually smiling in the company of a parental figure before! :?

Easy to smile when "Pops" is feeding you lobster, chicken, dogs, calzones and an occassional sip of beer, plus decent seats at an NFL game! ;)

He's a good kid at heart, it's the middle one I worry about...... ::facepalm::

So, last night, after about an hour of my Homer Simpson-esque fumblings, I managed to take digital pics of my Jack London auto book! Chris gave me her camera to use and I was able to accomplish it!

Oh sure, by the end of the evening Chris was saying things like, "What is wrong with you?" and "How are you making this so difficult?" (And no, Josh, she wasn't talking about THAT!)

But I managed, finally.

Anyone wanna see the pics? :geek:

We have one, the original ET, so the worry is focussed in on him like a laser beam.

Ok, you asked for 'em!

First, a long-winded story.

Many years ago, in Northern Cal, there was an unofficial writer's colony. Jack London and many others would gather, write, talk, and , of course, drink heavily. Anyway, a close friend of my great grandfather was a member of this group. He had moderate success at the time, but his books are nearly impossible to find now (I am still looking for them myself). His most well-known was called "The Planter".

So, when Jack London wrote "Martin Eden", a semi-autobiographical novel, he inscribed a copy to my gg's friend. That book was later given to my gg. He, in turn, passed it to my mother. She gave it to me when I was in high school. I became a huge fan from that moment on.

Here is a photo of the front cover of my first edition:
SAM_0055.jpg

Here is the opened inscription page with a little pasted in pic of Jack on the facing sheet:
SAM_0052.jpg

And here is a close-up of the signature with inscription.
The inscription reads, "Dear Jim: I hope you'll like this one-tenth as much as I liked the "Planter". Jack London Glen Ellen Nov. 23 '09"
