The Hawk was one of the most overrated players of all time. Couldn't get on base, played on horrible teams, and honestly if it wasn't for that one fluke MVP season with the cubs he wouldn't get 50 percent of the vote. Blyleven shouldn't make it in either, never lead the league in anything.
Yup. Here is my response in that thread...

You know, I could spend a lot of time typing out all his stats that show you he is top 50 all time in most offensive categories, tell you how the bolded actually helps his case, tell you he was ROY & MVP(the only one ever on a last place team, btw), tell you he won 8 gold gloves, had 8 all-star games, and 4 silver sluggers when those things actually meant something. I could also tell you that he had a cannon for an arm, is one of only 3 players in the history of baseball to hit 400+ HRs and steal 300+ bases in their career(one other is Willy Mays, and the 3rd is a cheater). I could also tell you that he is better statistically than most of the right fielders currently enshrined in Cooperstown.

I could do all that, but it's much easier to just tell you that you're wrong.

Btw - I will seriously shat my britches if Alomar gets in on the 1st ballot, after the deserving guys who had to wait 5-8 years to get in.

I'm holding you to it and will come down and ustream it.
 I am sure Alomar will get in first ballot.

Hey guys, back from the doc; here are my pickups for today with my tiny little store credit:

First off, another David Carr jersey card
sc00003cac01.jpg

Then got this jersey of some hockey guy; I just liked the cool colors on this one and have no idea who he is/was
sc00003cac.jpg

Always wanted one of these. It has sat in the shop case for YEARS!

Got a cheap (and creased!) Joe Namath card for my newish collection
sc00003cac03.jpg

And seriously, what would an Andrew post be without either a Carew or Fregosi card?

This one is in BEAUTIFUL condition (for a 71 Topps)!

Thanks for looking!

Andrew, love the Hobbs, what is that from? The Carew looks pretty sharp for a '71, very little white on the borders at all. What year is the Broadway Joe? I have a stash of football cards from 74-79 socked away somewhere and I know that is an earlier issue.

Andrew, The Carew and the Hobbs are pretty sweet and can't go wrong with a Joe Willy, creased or not! :D Hope all went well at the doc's office.

Hi Scott, the Namath is a 1972 Topps.

Originally, the Roy Hobbs cards were actually the ones that were used in the scene in the movie with the sheets of his bubblegum cards being shown. However, I have no idea if this is one of those authentic "movie-used" ones, or a knockoff. The back is blank. It is just a novelty for me, and I will probably never find out if this was authentic or not. Oh well, still cool to me! :)

Last post for the evening. I think the vid card is going out on my laptop so I am going to need to buy a new one, and while I am at it will buy a new upper and lower case to make my old pos look a bit better. I have an uncle that should he able to help me put it altogether unless someone knows someone that can do it on the cheap! JL WB from the land of the non-MT. Nice cards!

Night all!

Doc appt was okay, I guess. Tentative date for Surgery #5 is Friday, Jan. 15. Have to get blood work, EKG, and chest Xray before then, AND fill yet another cup. :x

Good night Darren, see you on the 5Jan09 MT! :D

Cool Mets mailday for you Dave!

You ain't just whistlin' Dixie brotha! The generosity of the FCB members never ceases to amaze me. It's what prompts me to pay it forward (backwards & sideways too! :D ) and contribute to collections even when you can't see the reactions when the package is opened!

My last one was on a Friday the 13th, believe it or not!

I am just impatient to feel better; have felt unbelievably tired and off my game since this all started up again last May. Have to remain positive!

Guys, I think Dawson and Alomar will get into the HOF. Blyleven will fall short IMO, he just was not a dominating enough pitcher to be put into the hall. He is borderline and I would not be angry if he did or did not make it in.

Also....apparently my dad thinks like all of you.....he told me to take a shot of his cognac.

What happened to Yaron(metsy617)? He was a big MT guy in bmb

I wrote to Yaron some time back and invited him here. Seems all was well but does not look like he ever made it here. His ebay name is still the same.
