Dan - Just went back and watched the nfl.com highlights.

The NO radio announcer at the end of the game is hilarious!

"Pigs have flown! Hell has frozen over! The Saints are going to the Superbowl!"

To fully understand what the people are going through is difficult to put into words. I am guessing that we'll see a lot of Katrina references in the next two weeks and how people still dont have their lives back just yet, but that the Saints are making everything better. Bourbon St will be a madhouse, fans will be talking about this and NOTHING else. Its going to be a great two weeks.
This is completely just my opinion, but I really hope they don't spew a bunch of that crap.

The Saints aren't helping anybody get their loved ones/house/life back.

Not exactly what I meant Charlie.

What I mean is that its a GREAT distraction from what life is like now, compared to then.

Like I said, its kinda hard to put into words ya know?

No, no. I didn't think you meant that at all Dan. I should have worded it differently.

That's all the crap that was on the news up here back in 2006. Just hoping the idiot machine that is
the national news doesn't go overboard with that kind of stuff again. I'm sure it is an incredibly wonderful
distarction for the people that live in the city and surrounding area.

While I wasn't there for Katrina, I have been through my share of hurricanes. Probably the most devastating was after Hurricane Floyd in 1999. The whole Katrina thing really pisses me off. These people were told to leave. I can understand not wanting to part with your home/pets/etc....but its like this. If I'm told to get out, I GET OUT! I'm tired of hearing the same ole song and dance about Katrina.

You think we got the attention when Floyd came through and decimated the entire eastern portion of North Carolina? Hell no! We weren't prepared for what happened because we didn't know it was going to happen. We didn't get the warning like so many people in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana did. And Dan, I'm not trying to step on your toes at all with this. It just struck a nerve and I feel like typing.

When these people were told to leave, they should have done just that. And I dont' for one second believe that they couldn't get out. With technology like it is today, they could have called the police, fire department, local government, Social Services, friends, neighbors, the pope or whoever, and they could have left. They chose not to.

When we were doing evacuations here after Floyd, we went house to house telling people to leave. When they refused it was a simple task....hand them a toe tag. When they asked what they were supposed to do with that, we told them to put it on their toes and fill out the information. That way when their bodies turned up, we'd know how to identify them. Its that simple. Thats how bad it was here. And the visuals is what hit home the most.
Let me tell you, its absolutely shocking to watch coffins float down river along with horses, pigs, cows, and other things. Thats what we had to deal with. I have tons of stories about our situation and the memories stick with us forever here. Water was literally rolling over rooftops it was so high. Grrr.......I hate people bringing up Katrina. Let it be. Its done. Over. Let the healing process continue and move on.

Morning Dave, thanks for the congrats. I didn't even know I won until Scott posted on the 1st page, lol. I went to bed early last night, and I only look at the first page in the morning until I wake up a bit.

I will say this though. The Saints, The Mannings, Brees, Bush etc have all been really generous towards the city. Its always great when athletes spend some time with their fans and taking a genuine interest in them off the field. :D

and NO Charlie, that is not directed at you. Its directed at the same people....the media.....that you speak of. They are gonna twist it so that it will be about the souls that were affected by the aftermath of Katrina.

And I lived between New Orleans and Baton Rouge so I am familiar with the area. Damn I would kill for some Cafe' Du Monde right now. Pralines and beignets would be so tasty!

Speaking of football........

I need a favor so I figured that I would start here.
As some of you know, I have started a Drew Bledsoe collection.
His last card was produced in 2007. Does anyone have an old Beckett Football alamanc from 2007 or 2008 they can part with?
I have a 2009 Baseball almanac to trade.
There are just so many parallels that aren't discernible on beckett.

Thanks,
Keith

I'm not going to respond to this because this is not the place for a debate like this. There are elements of what you said that I agree with, and some that I dont. I'm not bringing up Katrina in an attempt at sympathy etc. What I am saying is that with all of the attention the Saints will be getting in the next two weeks, its bound to come up at some point. I actually think it will be a positive light too. That a lot of people are happy, and that rallying around a team was a great way to move on.

I know Dan. And I'm sure I'm probably misinformed on some of what was said. Oh to be across the country and not walk a mile in the shoes of those folks. I know I know. I just hope that the folks in Louisiana can celebrate for all the right reasons and not have to see the joyous times turn into a "pity party" as I'm sure the media will try to spin it towards.

And with that, I've struck the nerves of the morning thread boss. Sorry Dan. Didn't mean to. My house in MTland is up for sale and I'm packed and gone. You guys stay cool. I resign from my position in MTLand................(drops mic on the floor) Peace

Morning all,

Good game yesterday!

Ought to be a fun Super Bowl. I will root for the Saints to win, only because I like seeing new teams get a chance to win the big one.

Am looking into finally getting my book/ephemera collection insured. Found a company that specializes in insuring my stuff and just need to do some more research on it.
