If Dick Ebersol was a little younger, he'd be a good choice. At 67 though, he'd have a short shelf-life for commissioner.

Bob Bowman, the man who built up MLB.tv from nothing, might be a good choice. The owners are already familiar with him, and he's made them a lot of money. He's smart and creative, and has the charisma to be a public face for the sport.

They need to go back to a true commissioner that they had, but since the owner have become billionaires off of the Selig style, there isnt no way they go back to an arbitrator style commissioner.

When you have baseball legends such as Aaron, McCovey, Morgan and many many others singing Selig's praises, no way are the owners gonna change it!

Much like in every other major sport, the commissioner works for the owners.

Goodell so far has been the only one that seems to care about working for more than just what the owners tell him to. I don't agree with everything he has implemented, but I do believe he cares about being progressive and making the game better.

MLB has made it clear from years of fighting progression, that they want to keep the game the same way as it is. How many years has instant replay been in every other sport yet baseball is now finally using it.

Most of the serious names tossed around in this thread would not jive with what baseball currently is. They want to bring the game up to speed with today's standards. MLB as a whole, in my opinion, does not want to.

Now they're saying Bud wants to name his own replacement even though they have an Official search committee set up.

Oh boy...

and I've read many owners aren't going to let that fly. They want to vote as a group on the new commish, not have Bud hand-pick his replacement.
