I thought maybe it would save a little space and be nice to have the majority of them all in one spot here. If you like it, help keep this thread alive!

Alex Smith (TE) meeting with NY Giants.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -for-long/

The Giants traded a tight end to the Patriots Saturday for a conditional draft pick, and may get a tight end for free from them a day later.

Alex Smith, who was released by New England after the team gave up a fifth-round pick for him this offseason, is visiting the Giants Sunday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Smith isn't known as a great blocker, but the Giants may be looking for more pass-catching opens for Eli Manning to throw to.

Cleveland Browns slaim Cedric Peerman (RB)
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... iver-wire/

The Browns did not release Jamal Lewis as some expected Saturday, but they have added more depth to the position.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns have claimed running back Cedric Peerman off waivers from the Ravens. Cleveland also claimed former Rams tackle Phil Trautwein.

Peerman was Baltimore sixth-round pick, and has a similar profile to current Brown Jerome Harrison as a speedy third-down back type.

Lewis and James Davis are expected to handle most early-down duties for Cleveland.

Yea. The Giants kept 7 WRs, and the rumor is they'll be looking to trade one. A subrumor to that is Miami wants to trade Sinorice. They already expressed they'd be interested when it was thought he could be cut.

The Dallas Cowboys have announced their practice squad. Good to see Holley is there, Stanback is not, and Bobby Carpenter must still be on the actual team ::facepalm:: .
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ice-squad/

Maybe Jerry Jones just wants to extend the promotional brand of Fourth and Long, the Michael Irvin reality show in which Jones awarded a 80-man roster spot to the winner.

Or maybe Jesse Holley has really earned his spot on the Cowboys practice squad. (This heads-up play resulting in a 82-yard touchdown couldn't hurt.)

Whatever the reason, Holley's accomplishment indicates his presence on the training camp roster wasn't all just a stunt. Who knows, maybe Holley will even be able to do his wing-flapping touchdown dance in a game that counts someday.

The rest of your 2009 Dallas practice squad: guard Travis Bright, quarterback Rudy Carpenter, tight end Scott Chandler, fullback Julius Crosslin, defensive end Marcus Dixon, wide receiver Manny Johnson, and wide receiver Mike Mickens.

Update in the Kevin O'Connell Thread.
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=60184&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

We mentioned earlier today the possibility that the Pats didn't try to trade quarterback Kevin O'Connell before cutting him because New England coach Bill Belichick wanted to slide the 2008 third-rounder through to the Chiefs, whose G.M. is former Patriots V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli.

The fact that, you know, Pioli didn't submit a waiver claim for O'Connell sort of blew that theory to hell.

But the Broncos, coached by former Pats offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, did make a claim for O'Connell. And even if Belichick wasn't trying to help McDaniels out, there's a belief that the trade of O'Connell from the Lions to the Jets might be a precursor to renewed trade talks between the Jets and the Broncos for receiver Brandon Marshall.

The notion has been floated by Mike Klis of the Denver Post. Though Klis points out that a source says the Broncos have no intention of trading Marshall, who rejoined the team today after a nine-day suspension for conduct detrimental to the team, the Jets seem to have even less of a need for O'Connell than the Lions did.

The Lions have used that worst-in-the-league status to have a pretty good Sunday. They claimed defensive end Copeland Bryan and cornerback Kevin Hobbs, according to the tweets of John Niyo at The Detroit News. Bryan was cut by the Bills; Hobbs by the Seahawks. They also grabbed former Ravens return man Yamon Figurs, running back Tristan Davis, tight end Carson Butler, wide receiver John Broussard and corner Marcus McCauley.

The Jaguars and Patriots also tried to grab Davis, according to Niyo, but the Lions are the first team in the process so Davis never got that far.

To make room for Bryan and Hobbs, the Lions released cornerback Ikaika Alama-Francis, a second-round pick from the 2008 draft and another remnant of the 0-16 season.

I hope that's not true, or if it is the case, I really hope the Dolphins don't give up much.

Nothing against Moss, because I believe he can turn into a good receiver, but the Dolphins already have a handful of "good" receivers....so it really doesn't solve any problems. Plus Ginn, Bess and even Hartline are probably better options with similar skill sets.
