it goes. how are you?

i need a g-damn FOCUS

Car? I'm doing alright. Finally finished taking care of another family members finances for good hopefully, now I can get back to my hof/star rc project that I think you're aware of already. I kind of picked through the mid end of everything, now to go for the biggins. Seaver, Rose, Carew, Ryan, etc. Only about 25 cards left on my list the last I checked.

no, not the automobile, a card focus lol

glad to hear things are good on your end. i hear you on the bigguns

Did you finish the 500HR club project. I know you were working on that a while back though.

No, that kind of stalled out. i did finnish Robinson, McCovey, Killebrew, and Schmidt though

I can imagine that being a huge task time wise and financially too. You finished with 4 great HOFers though. Underrated in some regards too.

I started this rookie project with the intention of not breaking up sets. So in a sense its kinda rough going back and dropping coin on cards I already have, but the goal is to keep the sets in tact and this project seperate. I kind of hit a stalemate in collecting for a while, so I came up with this. When I'm done, I know I'll be lost again. I've got most everything I've ever wanted, so its hard to find the Focus. I'll probably start upgrading or something. Not sure[/quote:1kdao42x]

i totally hear you on not wanting to drop coin twice on the same card. remind me again the stretch of topps sets you have done?[/quote:1kdao42x]

57, 61, 64-66, 70-72, 74, 76-90

Have a ways to go on the late 50's, but strong partial sets from there on out. Was trying for 60-90, but came up on a Mantle, Mays, and Williams from 57 in a matter of a few weeks and decided to start from there. I'm within a couple dozen cards on most of those incomplete sets. I am omitting some sp's/errors that I couldn't attain at the time[/quote:1kdao42x]

FANTASTIC! are they all sheeted up?

Looking at what I need to do to submit a card to BGS. I'm thinking of just putting my card in a magnetic case and then putting it in a fiber padded envelope but BGS says you shouldn't send from padded envelopes. Do people really send them off in those Express Mail boxes like they show in Step 6 here? http://www.beckett.com/grading/packing.asp

Also, not sure what to do in regards to declaring the value of this card. I've seen auctions for this card end around 380-400 graded 9.5/10, but no cards have been sold, "raw"

Yep. For a while I had the big cards in a seperate box in holders, but it just looks much better to flip from beginning to end with no gaps.

Good chat, I'll try to cook up some ideas to shoot your way. Give me a chance to possibly click something in my head too. I think I've decided my next project with either be to amass more raw killebrew to be graded, or upgrade to PSA EXMT+ on everything haven't decided.

Take it easy everyone posting and or lurking. Time for this dude to crash and celebrate our independence day in the morning. 235 years and counting!

Last post of the night.

When I grade I get a small box, pack cards in ultra pro loaders, and rubber band a couple pieces of cardboard top and bottom. Then close the box, and tape all of the edges shut. This is the recommended way, and most secure, but you can ship any way you see fit at your own risk.

Cards in magnetic holders can rattle around and possibly damage the corners and edges.

Just declare a value of what you think it would take you to replace it. That is in case it gets misplaced or lost. You pay for the value you declare, so its pretty much up to you.

Hope that helps

Imthinking of signing with PSA while I'm there

Wait, you're not already under contract?

Nope. Just pick them up already slabbed

I'm thinking that by signing up, it will help me to stay focused

Do you have enough of a raw inventory? Or will the mighty E start to get into some ungraded. I know that you prefer slabbed

No, I don't have much raw to submit really.

But what I would LIKE to do is rip to get the Brett/Schmidt's that I want. Like '86 OPC, 87 Leaf, and the less popular sets like that

Yea, thats fun. I know we've talked about my stash of wax, and when I busted into a chunk it was fun to get stuff graded. Lost money breaking it, but its fun and thats what matters. You get some 9's and 10's of just about anyone, and there is still money to be had with set collectors.

I'm still not current on my membership, but I'll get it taken care of soon. I wonder if you can get a discounted membership at the national as well? That'd be nice.

Also,(I'll have to dig in my storage unit)if you need any from 85 Fleer star stickers, I busted a couple boxes a little while back and have dupes of most in the set. Not sure if thats one you need. Got a couple 9's and 10's out of that too. The problem is how they were cut and their centering. Fun cards, not worth alot, but the early stickers.
