Since 2000 the Royals have averaged about 94 (93.6) losses per year. During that time they've managed to have (4) 100 loss seasons they've also managed to lose 936 games of the 1598 that they've played. That gives the Royals, so far, in the decade of the 2000's a win percentage of .414. The Royals' win percentage this season is .393 while their lowest over this span was .346 in 2005. They've only had 1 winning season which was 2004 when they had a win pct of .512. The last time they had a winning season before that was 1993.

Before you decide keep in mind that for the rest of the season the Royals are playing these teams:

Cleveland x 3 (4th place)
Detroit x 3 (1st place)
Chicago White Sox x3 (3rd place)
Boston Red Sox x4 (2nd place)
Minnesota Twins x6 (2nd place)
New York Yankees x3 (1st place)

So for the last 22 games only 6 will be played against sub .500 teams and 10 of them will be played against likely playoff teams.

So, after 140 games, I reckon they are playing .390 ball. To avoid losing 100, they need to go 8-14, which is .360. So they could get there just doing what they're doing. However, as noted, they need to do so against fairly good competition. Unfortunately, I figure to avoid losing 100, they need to be rained out for the next 3 weeks.

What happened to KC? Growing up in the 70s, cable-less, I was only rarely saw AL teams. When the Phils faced them in the '80 series I saw a team that had a lot of flair, aggression, and talent, and was sort of grudgingly glad to see them win in '85. I know, small market and all that, but other teams live in small markets (and really, what is a "small market" these days?) and are able to build competitive teams at least every decade or more. Montreal comes to mind, but look at the state of the Nationals. Are there simply no baseball smarts in KC anymore?

Well it's been a few days and just this evening they owned the Tigers 11 to 1 behind three 3 run homers.

18 Games To Go and the Royals need 5 wins to keep from 100

Wow, the Royals have been streaking, relatively speaking. With 60 wins now, I think the question is not whether they finish with +/-100 losses, but whether they can climb over Cleveland out of last place (the Indians are just 1 game better).
