The Red Sox should cut Javier Lopez and keep up Bowden.

That is all.

Javier Lopez = Eric Gagne

You Sox fans know what I'm talking about.

Sigh......

And I still don't understand why Bowden is in the minors!

haha, don't think this deserved its own thread but I'll chime in. Unlike the rest of the Redsox who look for a way to win, Lopez looks for a way to lose. He is useless in the bullpen. I don't care if tradition says you need more than 1 lefty in the pen. Its not worth keeping a second lefty if lefty's are hitting .450+ against him

But with Bowden, I don't want to see him go to the Pen, both financially for my sake, and for a Redsox standpoint. If you are going to cut lopez then bring up Bard or just keep Jones up when Dice-K gets back

Lopez drives me nuts. The few times Francona utilizes him correctly (as a lefty specialist), he walks the guy he's supposed to get. For some reason, Francona loves to pitch him against righties too, which makes no sense. Lopez should never pitch in any situation other than mop up duty.

Anyone whose name ends in a Z can not pitch relief for the Sox:

Tavarez
Seanez
Lopez
.....endless list of bums the last few years!

I cringe everytime they put Gagne in 07, and for good reason.

I cringe everytime they put Lopez in relief, and also....for good reason.

Please Red Sox.....bring up Bowden. And someone else, drop Lopez and Lugo. GRRRR

There is no room for Bowden in the starting rotation, and if he can be a major asset to the bullpen...then why not use him there?

1. He IS great
2. He IS major league ready
He didn't look fazed at all on the mound, that's what really got me.

Man, if they waste Bowden in the pen, it would be such a shame. At least bring up Bard for that role. He is far more suited for it. Bowden can start for this team along with Buchholz. Believe it or not, Wakefield will eventually retire. Penny and Smoltz aren't long term answers either. Bouncing Bowden back and forth will not help him.

Oh really....players retire?!

And how can a pitcher be 'wasted' in the pen if they can be effective and do the role well?

Sure I would like to see Bowden be a starter just as much as the rest of you, but sadly that is not going to happen this year. And it may not happen next year either, who knows.

Alls I know is that I want the Sox to win games....and if he was in the pen we would have had a great shot at winning the game.

I dont think in the long run Bowden will be an effective arm in the bullpen. He doesn't have the 95+ fastball, and he still leaves too many breaking balls up in the zone. Masterson on the other hand has proven that he is able to pitch that one inning out of the pen and be completely effective. Next year 3 spots in the starting rotation are locked, and probably a fourth in Wakefield. That leaves Buchholz or Bowden for that fifth spot assuming they leave Masterson in the pen. We have seen how erratic Dice-k can be and to have a solid major league arm keeping him stretched out in AAA makes the most sense to me.

Ask the Rays about "wasting" someone in the bullpen. Their pen lost yet another game for them tonight.
Good pens win championships. Bowden could start, but there just isn't a spot for him right now.

Yeah Lopez blew it tonight, but man seeing Lugo out there makes me throw up a little each time I see him.
